  1. Joanne, I love your wedding pic. You look so happy!

And I agree with the others that your grown-out curls are lovely.

I remember your post about relaxing your curls. I don't know of any product that will lengthen your curl. I think the more hair you grow the more the weight will pull them down.

But I do have a favorite product for softening the curls. When I use the Aveda Strong Hold Sculpturing Gel, my hair gets crunchy and stiff. I use Ouidad Clear Control Styling Pomade after my hair has dried, and it makes my hair so soft! I know Aveda makes a product to soften the curls after drying, but I'm not sure if it's Aveda Brilliant Styling Creme or something else.

  2. beansprouts: Mr. Beansprouts: This is a "hair club" group?

Mrs. Beansprouts: Um... yes... we talk about curly hair

Mr. Beansprouts: I'm sorry. I love you anyways.

We could've called it the coiffure club.

Mr. Apiphobic: The what? Coffee club?

Mrs. Apiphobic: Coiffure. Never mind, honey. I love you anyway.

  3. Kristafish: I wish I could find just one product that I could use to hold my hair~it's frustrating.

Once again, this is just a personal opinion. Depending upon where I live (the humidity is usually the deciding factor), I've used Ouidad Climate Control Gel or Ouidad Curl Quencher Moisturizing Gel. Dd uses Ouidad Tress F/X styling gel.

After watching the instructional video, I learned how to style my hair so it wouldn't frizz. However, as I mentioned before, Ouidad products are very expensive. You could try the starter set ($30) to see if this would work for you.

Another product that has great hold is Aveda Flax Seed Aloe Strong Hold Sculpturing Gel. That stuff works! But it leaves my hair crunchy, so I use Ouidad Clear Control Styling Pomade after my hair has dried. It really softens my hair without losing the curls.

If anyone is interested in Ouidad, start with the Curl Profiler. You can order a free product brochure, too.

  4. Michelle T, I forgot about clipping the top of the hair. I'm not familiar with small banana clips though, just the duckbill clips.

I'm in the growing out stages again since I recently had my hair cut rather short. We were going for the inverted bob. The haircut wasn't too bad, but I was not happy with the coloring this time around. Oh, well. Next time.

We're going to have to figure out something for your addiction though. ;)

Michelle T: I admit, I'm addicted to hair spray!

  5. Natalieclare: Speaking of big globs...I can't believe the amount of conditioner my family goes through! Shocking, I tell you.

Said in my best Craig Ferguson impression, "I knoooww!"

  6. Jill, I'm constantly finding my 3 dd's ponytails, barrettes, bobby pins, and clips ALL OVER! My 2 oldest dd's often wear ponytails on their wrists. Or they borrow my hair things, and I'm forever thinking I've lost my mind because didn't I just put it here?? :)

Thanks for sharing about the video from Curls Like Us. I know Ouidad had a video on how she recommends styling hair, but now I can't find it on her site.

I did find this video which shows Ouidad do the shake and rake technique that was a key element of styling in her How To video. You'll need to scroll down to WB News "Tricks of the Trade" - Three easy styles for curly hair.

  7. Rhonda in TX, I have a dd with curls, too, and I'm hoping she'll love them as well. She's read Curly Girl and Curl Talk. She plays with her hair a lot, sometimes curly, sometimes not. I love how creative she gets.

Reminds me of the question on the GB recently about resembling a celebrity. An aunt once said dd reminded her of Julianne Moore. I'll have to find a couple pictures of dd, one before she got the curl and after.

  8. dirty ethel rackham, soup cans? I have to admit I've never heard of that one! I've seriously considered chemically straightening my hair before, but I've always been talked out of it.

I'm glad you're playing with your curls.

  9. beansprouts: Well, I could use some advice. I colored my hair about two weeks ago, and in spite of my conditioning regimen it is still very dry. Any suggestions?

I'm going to take off my moderator cap and make a recommendation. I'll probably sound like a broken record after a while. Just know that this is just my personal opinion. YMMV!

Reading this post made me think of the Ouidad Deep Treatment Intensive Conditioner. My favorite hair products are Ouidad. Unfortunately, their products are prohibitively expensive, so I can understand wanting to find cheaper alternatives. You could try the Ouidad Starter Set ($30) to find out if it would be something you'd want to continue.

Good luck and thanks for reminding me I'm overdue for my deep treatment (follically speaking). :tongue_smilie:

  10. Natalieclare, I don't think I realized I had curly hair until I stopped brushing it. Now I only run a wide-toothed comb through it in the shower (while conditioner is in it) or run my fingers through it after showering.

I'm embarrassed to admit I thought you meant Paul Revere of the midnight ride instead of Paul Revere and the Raiders.

You don't have to prove that you have curls or the curly gene or anything to join this group. No statement of fate (it was predestined for me to have or have not curls!) or prenup is required. :D

  12. There's an effort to elect an unknown random person as President... and it's someone we know! Watch this online video about the surprising new candidate.

    Loved it.

    :lol::lol::lol:

Now, we need a VP for Doran!

    Here are my nominations:

    VP - Mrs. Mungo

    Secretary of Defense - Remundamom

Secretary of State- Laura in China

    Press Secretary - Apiphobic

Bwahahaha! My version of press secretary probably wouldn't be anything like CJ in West Wing. It'd probably be more like the secretary Doralee in 9 to 5! :D
