  1. For weight training I follow Body for Life which you can do at home. You can get their book at the library or check out their website, (I think the book format is easier to understand). For cardio you could walk/run.

FYI - this is a great time to negotiate with a health club. Our nicest health club in town, which is typically $89 per month + signing fees, just gave me a month to month membership for $28 with no fees. They even threw in a free $100 credit at their spa. Their family membership normally runs $160 and at one point in the negotiations they offered me a family membership for $70.

  2. Can you call the dr. office to make sure? I heard that if it is H1N1 that you want to catch it right away, within the first 48 hours.

Also, if the dr. suggests coming in, maybe you could check out an urgent care facility closer to home. We have used Primacare near our home and you can call before you go and they will put your name on a waiting list so you don't wait as long in the office.

Hornblower - thanks for the check list - very informative.

  3. So my mom did not discuss this with me, either. I swim, and finally opted for a suit with a little skirt, so I didn't have to be quite so careful. But my problem is the red bumps and rash I get between my upper thighs. How do you deal with that?

Back to bikini lines...I hate those red bumps - so painful. I shave my bikini lines with the sideburn feature of an electric shaver. It leaves the hair long enough that you don't get red bumps when it grows back. You can follow up with Nair bleach if needed.

  4. I think there was a thread about this recently. You could do a search! I use the instant watch feature a lot. Recommend: I am David, Martian Child, My Father's Glory, Bella, A Wedding for Bella [not the same Bella] ...

Right now my kids are suppose to be doing their homework, but they are watching the 2009 PBS version of King Lear. LOL!

    We have also enjoyed:

Shakespeare: The Animated Tales, (though my youngest thinks some of them are creepy so don't watch them at night)

    Terry Jones: Medieval Lives

    Liberty Kids - all

    Drive Thru History - all

    Popular Mechanics - any

    Egypt - Engineering an Empire

    IMAX - any

    Little House on the Prairie

    Wind at My Back

    Love Netflix!

  5. Yep - dh and I discuss that we both have that dream too. Mine is usually in college and I have forgotten to attend a class all year long only to realize it right before I graduate. Last night, I got caught cheating on a science test in my dream. LOL

I use to have the same dream about forgetting to attend class all year until the final exam. In a similar dream the teacher would hand out a quiz that the everyone in the class knew about - except me.

Weird. I haven't had those dreams since turning 40.

  6. Taco Rollups are a hit here

1 8oz package cream cheese, softened

    1 packet taco seasoning mix

    1 can refried beans

Mix together. Spread on flour tortillas and top with finely shredded cheese (Mexican blend, taco blend, cheddar, colby or whatever). Roll up. Chill and slice into small rounds. Serve with salsa.

    That looks really easy. Thanks!

  7. One thought on Upward is to call the Director and see if you son can help out with the program either as an assistant coach or ref. He will still get exercise and might be able to connect with some other boys his age. Also if he gets some ref or assist coach experience then he might be able to ref as a paid job when he gets older.

Also it seems like many middle schoolers in our area are into airsoft. I don't know if that would work for your family, but my ds plays several times a week. It is great exercise and provides another social opportunity.

How about swimming or a running club?

  8. I always check Consumer Reports before buying appliances. They give a great run down on features and prices along with any that may be a lemon in a particular year.

You can subscribe to consumerreports.org (I think that's the web site) for one month at a cost of something like $4.99. I've done that when I needed to find specific brand info. quick.

I've always read (and heard) that Kenmore is a good brand for the money. I would certainly give them some serious consideration.

This summer my mom and I went to the library and got the Consumer Reports review of kitchen appliances. If I remember the Kenmore Elite was the top rated and GE Profile was up there too. If you go to your library they will let you look at the magazine, (we had to ask at the counter).

  9. I have a face painting book kit by Klutz. The paint comes as part of the book kit and it includes several different ideas and designs.

You can buy face paint at any craft store.

At our local ps they use craft acrylic paint for check designs, (not a full on painted face).

  10. I wish I had a simple way to track our grocery budget. So far this year I have been averaging $1,200 per month at Walmart, Costco, Target and grocery stores. That amount includes groceries, cosmestics, clothing, school supplies, household items, decor, pet supplies, meals for friends in need, and entertaining. We rarely eat out and have a family of 5 so I wish I knew how much of that was for groceries.

If you google "what's my decorating style" you'll find lots of online quizzes, etc.

Also, if that's not your thing, go to B&N, get an armload of home magazines, park yourself in the coffee shop and peruse! Also, whenever you see a room, or piece of furniture, or color in a magazine you like, rip it out and put it in a file. Take your time with decorating; it's expensive to correct mistakes if you buy the wrong piece of furniture!

    And, have fun!

:iagree: I worked with a friend who is a decorator and she had me go through several magazine and make a collection of pictures that I liked for the kitchen, bedroom, family room and living room. She was helped me figure out a style based on my preferences. I included my dh in the process so that put the two of us on the same page.

I also wanted to mention that we own a pine Thomasville dining room set. I didn't realize that pine is a soft wood and our table is so scratched up. Make sure if you buy pine that is has a super finish on it. Ours didn't, (maybe because it was meant for formal dining) and it looks terrible.
