  1. How long did it take you/should it take for a 1stgrader/2ndgrader,who is a good speller, to go through AAS 2 before moving onto 3? I'm trying to decide when I should go ahead and purchase AAS 3 and homphones.
  2. I have a 2nd grader that I will be doing Elemental History with and THEN CHOW with story of the world 1 - feel good about my plan. i have a feeling we may speed through rather quickly both of them taking a year and a half to do all of the above.
  3. I just had to share how excited I am to have come across these. Anyone else have experience with them? I will be ordering them soon! The Social Skills Picture book and The New Social Story Book - Over 150 social stories that teach everyday social skills They are originally for kids on the autism spectrum. BUT reviewers say, and I think I will strongly agree, that ALL kids will find these very beneficial. Although, both my kids have sensory processing disorder, and one is diagnosed with ADHD and the other disruptive behavior disorder... so they will definitely be beneficial, i'm hoping.
  4. thinking of doing this before we begin SOTW1 - anymore updated opinions on the matter!?
  5. Wonderful! thank you! btw - is it Rod and staff grammar only or all rolled into something else?
  6. one more question, when it comes to WWE - do some condense it, speed it up or skip certain weeks at times when their children are either starting late in it or finding it monotonous at times? I will be starting WWE1 in a few weeks but really could have started it last year. my daughter will be 7 in November and had her "1stgrade" year last year.
  7. Because SL has been my first love and my core for, read-alouds, history, science, It has been hard to not be pulled to keep it all under one roof... I'm a purist. :) But i'm just going to be a All about learning press & Peace Hill press purist too when it comes to LA :)
  8. Has SWB been putting out her writings just one book a year? or several a year? or does it always differ?
  9. OH OK! What age ranges benefit from The Creative Writer? And we will be finishing my FLL book 1 & 2 in spring 2013... so... hopefully I won't have to wait for ALL...!???!?!?!?!? :D
  10. I have done some serious thinking and evaluating of what needs to happen today. It is really hard for me but I think I'm going to cut out my plans with SL's LA, at least for now. Until the LA is included in the cores (and then I will add touches of it in) But for now, I think I will just put all our eggs in the SWB writing basket :) it feels good to make this decision. And if I see that my daughter needs some creative writing time (i.e. she likes it when I give her creative starters to run with) then I will schedule that in once a week. :)
  11. did you do most of SL's activities/writing assignments or did you skip some/a lot of that too? do you see this continuing to be possible once SL's LA is more connected with it's history and when FLL and WWE move on too? in fact, still trying to figure out what they move on to.
  12. My little guy is not 3 he will be 4 1/2 later this fall. BUT for what it's worth I think he will be ready for it then. This past year he has always played with TONS of manipulatives, legos, and beyond before this time.
  13. I have plans to begin WWE1 and FLL1&2 with Sonlight's LA 2 this year... I had been looking at doing this last year but didn't... but I think it is most definitely doable this year and at least for the next 3 years. BUT from my classical language arts friends, is it doable from your point of view... i.e. I am not as familiar with TWTM way in later years. - the plan is to follow WWE scheduling from days 1-4 and then add in throughout the week and at the very least, just on fridays some creative writing b/c my daughter craves this but needs the WWE structure.... I would appreciate any tips on trying to combine the two... b/c i plan to use SL as my core all the way through... but also using the SOTW series now and throughout the next 4 years, too...
  14. So my assumption is WWS comes after WWE 4 but does Creative writer 1 come after FLL4? is THIS how it works?
  15. question... AAS seems to have alot of phonics... wouldn't all the AAR levels have a lot of overlap? does it have any overlap now? I have only done AAS 1 and have not purchased yet the pre reading level.
  16. I have also decided to do this with my son, who needs something writing free and hands on and i know he will love the puppet but will, too, move ahead quickly through it. so i'm happy to hear that there will be more levels with this style... random question though... does anyone know if they use a white board for the pre-reading? it doesn't SEEM like they do until level 1, but just curious...
  17. I'm so glad to hear that they are going to try and print volume/set2 I will offer the recommendation of this product to anyone looking at vocabulary options, for sure!
  18. http://www.timberdoodle.com/Marie_s_Words_p/828-828.htm - here they say for all ages in the title and then it says 5+ in the age range for marie's words.
  19. for me it is a difficult decision btwn the two, eventually I will probably just get them both b/c I am thinking that my daughter my prefer this way of vocabulary... and it will all help. BUT it may be that the cheaper one will win out this year.
  20. OK! I am NOT skipping A or B at this point for either one. I think you ladies have sealed it for me! LOVE these forums! thanks so much!
  21. thanks for your info, i especially like the above. i was almost thinking to have my daughter who is going into 2nd grade and almost 7 to dip into the time with my 4.5 year old son in A, too at times.... she tends to like to be right there when i'm teaching him anyway...
