Have you ever heard of using fish oil to help children with speech disorders? If you give your child fish oil to help with speech, which fish oil do you use? What dosage? What are your results? I am considering using FO for my DS who has speech disfluency and mild speech delay along with county provided speech therapy.

Today, I went to a Classical Christian school. They mentioned that they might move the kindergarten students away from Abeka to either Spelling to Write and Read or Saxon Phonics.
1. Can you tell me about Spelling to Write and Read and/or Saxon Phonics?
2. What is your experience with SWR and/or Saxon Phonics? Strengths? Weaknesses?
3. Do you have an opinion on why a school would move from Abeka phonics to SWR or Saxon Phonics?
4. How should I prepare my child to learn this material?
5. Comments?

I just like nicknames. I think it really shows the personality of my children. My captain america told me that I needed to have more children since he is going to be a super hero when he grows up. He does not want me to be lonely :tongue_smilie: Princess Pea cries princess whenever I put her in a dress.

Elementary Spanish is great. I would also look at Getting Started with Spanish. I think it is age appropriate.

Have you tried buying it used from ebay.com, vegsource or other used homeschool curriculum websites?

Did you know that all Disney Junior Shows can be listened to in spanish? My kiddos are watching Mickey Mouse in spanish downstairs. You just need to change your options on your menu guide to listen! http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2010/05/26/disneyabc-television-replacing-soapnet-channel-with-disney-junior/52530:)

Teaching time out... do you spank them each time they get up?
No.
Teachers are entitled to breaks.

Call your doctor. Get a prescription for a nutritionist. You have to follow your diet plan by the nutritionist closely.
Congratulations!

I tried everything under the sun. The only thing that worked was taking my son to the potty every 30 minutes for 3 weeks. I read books to him while he went potty. I challenged myself to read over a 100 books to keep my eyes off of the potty training goal. I also used a sticker chart. Evertime he filled up the sticker chart we had a movie night. Finally, we went on a road trip to see family with him in pull ups. He told us EVERYTIME he had to go potty after that with no accidents. Once he was potty trained we bought him a fun toy. He was 3.5 at the time.

If you want to lose some serious weight or get into shape, buy the old fashioned nordic track ski machines. They are great. Not much that you can break with it. I lost 30 lbs after my first baby on this machine (with diet). You can buy it on craigslist or a thrift store for $35-65. LOL, if it is not used,it makes a great coat rack too :) The best machine is the one you will use regularly.

1. Should I teach my son the long vowel and short vowel sound of "ba be bi bo.."? If not, why?
2. How do you know whether your child is proficient with the syllabary? Any clues or advice? I review the syllabary with him, and then we play "how do you spell....ba? etc. " Is that what I should be doing?
3. Anything I should look out for? Anything I should guard against using the syllabary?

I started to teach my son to read using TYCR100EZ lesson.
I just started using Webster's syllabary with my son, and he seems like he is catching on. Later on, should I teach my son the 70 phonograms or is that even neccessary at this point?:glare:

I just finished TYCR100EZ lessons. DS is a pretty good reader. We are going to start Webster's speller syllabary (sp?). I love the fact that once he finishes Webster's blue back speller that he will be at a 12th grade reading level. Check out thephonicspage.org or Don Potter's website.

Not sure whether you saw this article from the NY Times, A Classical Education: Back to the Future:)

Ok, I do not have an unlimited budget. Where do you buy your used curriculum online and in store? Please leave reviews, your opinion and/or advice about the site/store.
I know about the following places:
-ebay.com
-craigslist.com
-Well-Trained Mind Forums
-usedhomeschoolcurriculum.com
-homeschoolclassifieds.com
-thrift stores
Just thought this might be an informative thread.:)

I am a NEW homeschooling mom. I just finished TYCR100EZ lessons with my son with success (in my book). I have been wavering back and forth between PR, AAS and other new curriculum vs. Wester's Speller and McGuffey's readers. I love the look and reviews of the new curricula, but I love the price and history behind the classics. Do you have any advice for this novice homeschool mom? Do you regret using newer curriculum? Do you regret using the classic curriculum? Please tell me about your experience. :bigear:

Just wanted to thank whoever started this thread. I have been looking for something like MEP but didn't know how to find it. It looks perfect for what I need.
I am glad this thread helped!:)

I am new to homeschooling. I have been on this forum to research and find out what I am going to do next year. My son is in Pre-K, and we just finished TYCR100 easy lessons. I looked into PR and AAS as possible choices for LA. I was wondering why people choose new, expensive curriculum over free/inexpensive classics like Webster's Speller and McGuffey's Ecclectic Reader. Genuinely, I want to know if I am missing something:glare:. What is your opinion?
How many languages do you plan to teach?

Spanish is important since DH is Puerto Rican. After that, I would love for them to learn Latin. I would not be opposed to them learning French or Mandarin when they are older.
