We will also be using the Highlights Which Way USA? puzzle books and maps. There is a full set on ebay right now (not for sale by me). for pretty cheap.

Will be :bigear: for others ideas since we aren't doing this until next year. Have fun.

  2. I have the student text and was wondering if I should get the Activity Book to go with it.. Then I found these online and was wondering if it was the actual Activity Books?? If you have an activity guide, can you look to see if it matches what you have please?? Just choose whatever grade you have from the Activity Book drop down menu and it will load a .pdf

    Thank you in advance!!

  3. Old thread alert.. lol I was searching for something else and came across this older thread and had to post in case someone else might be searching and come across this thread. TFB now has How to Teach Art to Children available. Search for Emc: 760

I have found it worth it.. and talked about it in other TFB threads.

  4. Used it for first.. I skipped the Activity Guide and did Evan Moor's Ancient Civilizations History Pockets instead. http://www.amazon.com/History-Pockets-Ancient-Civilizations-Grades/dp/1557999007/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1359668947&sr=8-8&keywords=history+pockets It worked out great. You startr a pocket when you first see a civilization and then keep working on it whenever the chapter is about that civ. Pre-plan a tad so you get them finished. DD enjoyed it. I wished I had known about the lapbook since we probably would have done that instead but maybe next time around. The lapbook is here.. http://runofthemillfamily.blogspot.com/2010/04/story-of-world-lapbook-for-volume-one.html I also recommend the cd's.

  5. Thanks again for your help Alessandra. Just as a side note for anyone else who may read this or search for it later.. My friend talked to CK's Customer Service today and was told that the worksheets are available separately for $15 per grade + S&H. Not on the website, though, you have to call.

  6. I have the CK Instructional Masters for Grades 1-5 -- they come packaged with the Teacher Handbooks. At the bottom of each page, they say Master #__ and Grade __ Subject; and © Core Knowledge Foundation. Is that what you are asking about?

I haven't checked the CK website recently, but my belief is that they are only sold with the TH. In any case, that is how I got mine. Let me know if you have any questions -- I'm happy to help!

I have sometimes used other worksheets that are part of the CK lesson plans posted on CK site and elsewhere. A lot of them are really good, although it make take some searching to find ones that you like. That could be another way to go.

Those are the ones I was referring to! About how many are there per grade?? Are they fairly comprehensive?? I mean, are there worksheets for all subjects for example? And it would be great if there were worksheets for most of the topics. Thanks for your help!!

  7. Love MUS and you don't need to add anything but we do because we like math=D We do Teaching Textbooks and Life of Fred as supplements (I was able to borrow both). We use the supplements modified. No workbook for TT and really just read LoF. We've also done xtramath and TimezAttack for fact practice.

  8. I haven't used it myself but I've seen really positive reviews of The World Around Me by WinterPromise. A lot of their programs are reputed to be choppy and disorganized but I almost always see really good commentary about this particular K-2 program. We used the Core Knowledge sequence for science for first grade and found that it was a fun, full year just getting library books and doing the occasional experiment/project that went along with the topics.

We used The World Around Me for 1st grade and it was AWESOME!! (I have an older version of the teacher guide 2008 I think) We read so many books and did soo many fun experiments that for 2 years now I have tried to find another science curriculum that is just like it but for older grades!! The closest I could find was Nancy Larsen but it was to $$ and we are past it now as they only go to 3 anyway. I agree that WP other programs are *ahem* less than wonderful and I have used "loosely" American Story 1 and Children Around the World but World Around Me was great!. Good luck with Mr. Q!

  9. Awhile back at a free curriculum exchange, I found some great worksheets for K-1st that specifically identified themselves as Core Knowledge.. no other identifying markings. I would really, really love to find these again and maybe they have other grades as well?? I cannot get ahold of CK customer service so I turn to the Hive's collective knowledge! The only place I see on the CK website that has anything close to worksheets is the "Instructional Masters" in the Teacher Handbooks. Just looking for anything you can tell me. Thanks!!

  10.

When it comes to reselling if all the codes are used the purchaser can call TT and they will reset the number of codes so they can use it. They expect the, to be resold and have provided for that. I believe also that you get more than 2 codes. TT has great customer service and probabaly have all these questions answered under their FAQ on their website.

:iagree: I borrowed mine and was able to call and get a code from TT's Customer Service without a problem.

I use it as my supplement (to MUS) so I can't help you there either. If your dc don't care to write.. maybe computer games for a supplement??

  11. Used it alongside MUS Gamma and also used xtramath.com so I'm no help. It would depend on the child probably. Some can do the timed practice.. some prefer the games. My dd reads like crazy and there are quite a few really cute (and explanatory) books on multiplication in our library system.

  12. My dd9 is using it online (Latin American Spanish) and really struggles with the format. She does love getting to speak into the microphone=D but it does not explain new concepts before it wants you to choose an answer and so she just guesses around until she finally figures out what they want. And she hates getting it wrong and it's frustrating to not know what they want. I end up explaining it to her and then she does the work with less griping. We just started Getting Started with Spanish and that goes along with it pretty well actually and explains grammar concepts quickly and simply.

I don't know if you are aware of these but here is a link to the workbooks and tests for Spanish, French and German.

  13. Yup, Prepare and Pray. Have fun! :D

The Encyclopedia of Country Living is one of my favorite books. I even use it in the city. Over the years I have to rebuy this book so many times. I can't live without it. I think it's time to buy the Kindle version.

Ooh, I've never seen that Prepare and Pray before.. I like the look of it and will have to look further when it's not bedtime=D

There is also The Backyard Homestead and companion one on animals..
