  1. So, basically you just do it at their pace. I just wondered if it was an every day or every other day thing. :) I think I'm going to go ahead with the Heart of Dakota book as our kindergarten. I already have it and most everything to go with it. Seems silly to buy another curriculum. I really wanted MFW tho. . . lol. ;) Thank you for your thoughts.!.
  2. I'm going to be using early bird singapore math with my K'er this year. My question is this. I've never taught a kindergartener before! Do you do pages every single day, every other day? I do most things interest led, so if she asks for it of course I'm going to let her do it. However, I'm just wondering how fast to do these workbooks :D Thanks in advance for your expertise. :D
  3. That is right up my alley! I want to do hands on things, because that's what holds my kids attention, but I don't have time (or the energy!) to be doing lots of crafty things. Like lap books, I LOVEE the idea for them, I've downloaded instructions and all kinds of stuff for them, but we've never actually done one. When my kids are a bit older hopefully I'll be able to incorporate these, but right now they're just too much! :) Thanks for all the recommendations!! I soo appreciate it.
  4. Soo, after you complete Considering God's Creation for Science, where do you go from there!? LOL. I've been looking at science I was really interested in Apologia, but I viewed some sample lessons yesterday and it looks like just reading? Which is great, but we are totally hands on here. :D Could someone point me in a general direction of where you've gone next after using Considering God's Creation or something like it.?. Thank you!!!:D
  5. Thank you for your replies! I think in the next few weeks maybe we will try out Singapore Math see if he is more challenged by it. I love how MUS is set up, I would really like to stick with it. But if he's just not challenged he's just not challenged right? :) Maybe I'll look into supplementing the Singapore workbooks. I'm not sure how that will work though. . .
  6. I don't have any advice, as I'm just starting my first K'er also, but I just wanted to encourage you! I remember being in your shoes last year about this time when we decided to pull our oldest from PS. You're making a great choice, and it seems you already know that!! ;) You're going to do great!! Please don't panic! :D
  7. Okay, so we've been using Math U See and I *l♥ve* that program, and Steve Demme! However, my son is a regular math whiz. I wonder if he'd be more challenged by Singapore Math? We literally just breezed thru Beta, but I wonder if it's because they seem to be pushing them ahead in public school, and what we learned in Beta he already had a grasp on from 1rst grade public school. Gamma looks much more challenging. . . hmm. Any thoughts? I'm going to start my daughter this year too for kindergarten. Not sure which program to go with for her. I already have Singapore Math for Kindergarten. Is it bad to have kids on different math programs if it's not needed (which I don't know yet) lol. Lots of questions. I just want to choose the best one for them :001_smile: ♥
  8. Oh my. That pic was super funny. I just got a pro series one too. ;) YAY. So far doing great with my large quantity bread recipe. lool
  9. I know it's too late but you have to add a little shortening or vegetable oil! :D this makes them smooth. :D
  10. well, it's too bad you can't find the lake location with a jacuzzi and/or fireplace. ;) LOL. I'd take the lake location, even if it weren't cheaper. You can provide all the special stuff from the other one (well, besides the jacuzzi and fireplace.)
  11. This is my first year, but I intend to do year round schooling so that when we hit road blocks during the regular school year we can take the time we need to off without fear of not having it all done. Less stress. for me anyways! :D
  12. well, I have a Kenmore Elite dishwasher. But I also have a Kenmore elite front load washer and dryer all of which we only bought 2 years ago. The washer is already crapping out. So, honestly, while we've had NO issues with the dishwasher whatsoever, I don't know if I'd recommend Kenmore or not. . . If the dishwashers are as faulty as the washers and as cheaply made. . . hmmm. . . but I guess that is the state of all appliances anymore. ;) LOL.
  13. hi! Just a simple opinion here. My kids share a room. They prefer it that way. We moved from a tiny house to one where they could spread out and they prefer staying in the same room. There is some age difference, but it's only from 7 to 3 & 4 so I don't know how much help that will be. I honestly think sharing a room will help teach them tolerance, and to know how to relate to their sibling. Not being able to foster such selfish tendencies as those with their own rooms would. ;) lol. *shrugs*
  14. agreed! We have a Kenmore. It's sitting on cement flooring, and not even on a pedestal. It still sounds like a freight train is coming through our house. lol! :D I think it's just because it spins soo hard. *shrugs* Could your boxspring be broke? I have no idea. All I know is that we described our own issue to an employee at a mattress store, and she said our problem wasn't the mattress it was the box spring. HA! Kids have jumped on it one too many times. ;) hehe.
  15. We have issue with this also, like my oldest gets up really early and plays before everyone else gets up. When everyone else gets up it's shut off though. And I KNOW this isn't good, because he hasn't bothered to do chores or anything. . . I'm just trying to decide what to do. I'd like to say we'll just get rid of the thing. But unfortunately, DH & I like to play it also. lol. . . . Thanks for all of these good ideas. I'm going to discuss with my DH as well! :D
  16. I asked him why, turns out Grandma gave his cousin some money for a couple of "O"'s on her interim report from a PS. And she asked him if he gets report cards. hahah. Guess I'll write one up for him. . .lol. Thanks for your replies. Heather, could you elaborate a little on what your report cards look like? It sounds like something I'd like to try. :001_smile: Thanks again ladies!!
  17. Hi! Well in the middle of our first year. And my son asked me yesterday am I going to get a report card? Huh. I didn't know how to answer him.!. I said sure I suppose at the end of the year we will do a report card. Here's my question though, we aren't doing testing. I'm not really keeping 'grades' per se. I don't grade his papers. He's my oldest and the only one schooling right now, so I sit with him while he does his work, and we 'grade' it as we're working. I've read of several homeschooler's doing their school this way. However, now I'm beginning to wonder how do you keep track of progress. If I kept grades, he'd be getting 100% because at the end of a project or work it is 100% complete and correct. lol. Please help me answer this question! :D thank you. :001_huh:
  18. Oh wow! Your the only other weaver I've met on here! So, since you've been doing this curriculum for a while, my first question was that I was trying to figure out a way to get both Bible lessons In without it being overwhelming. I bought the BJup Bible for second grade before I learned about Weaver, and it was pricey. So, I'd like to use it, but I'm unsure how to work in the Weaver Bible lesson along with the Bob Jones Bible. Do you think this would be overwhelming? I don't want them to miss the significance of how the Bible lessons from Weaver correlate directly with what we're learning about in all our other lessons! ! Maybe I should ask on the Yahoo group, but I found it confusing. Probly cause I didn't try very hard to figure it out. Lol. Thanks again and hopefully you'll see this thread again and read this! Thank you.
  19. Thanks for the new replies! I appreciate opinions that differ from mine because it requires me to think past what I've got set in my mind. Lol. I tend to have tunnel vision these days. ;) I've decided I'm going to put Weaver on the shelf until I finish the BJU mostly for financial reasons, I bought it new and it cost me as much as the Weaver did in it's entirety. :) haha! I do have books to cover nearly every subject aside from weaver set, so it won't cost too much more. Christina- thanks for offering the dictating option it hadn't occurred to me to do that, but it's working! Thank you. Can I ask more questions, not related to my original post.?. I have questions about spelling, phonics, etc. That area. For second grade, do I need to do phonics still? I was looking through it and seems like he already learned what's in the book in school last year. For spelling I'm trying to decide between Sequential Spelling and Rod and Staff spelling. Which one is better in general? Ethan is a natural speller so I *think* we would need something that focuses on the rules and such, which they probably all do. Please bear with me I haven't ever seen these books, so I have no idea and my questions probably seem silly. I do appreciate the time taken to read and respond. :)
  20. Thank you! I really like the Weaver it's very low key. Very hand's on. It to me does have quite a bit of writing, creative writing which is every day, then there's writing in language arts, writing in the applications of science and social studies. I think I could get him into it with those things. You know when it's something he's excited about. My main hesitation with it was the Bible lesson I feel like we have to do or he won't get the connection. Lol. I just didn't want to overwhelm them with too many Bible facts or stories in a day, ya know? I'm afraid that the information might start to get jumbled up :) heheh. So the Weaver includes everything but math and reading. Math is my son's ,thing, when I ask him if he wants to do something fun he asks for math. Lol. So, how do you think I should ramp up with that knowledge? I chose Rod and Staff reading and Math U See and Singapore Math's. Just do one subject a day? How long do you think? Probly depends on my ds right? Oh there's so much to think about! Ha! Thank you again.
  21. Well, I went ahead and started my son on our second grade curriculum, I wanted to make sure that what I have will work before I go to the convention next weekend. Mt son hates writing. Creative writing, copying Bible verses, he doesn't even like writing in answers to workbook type things! Ack! Turns out the Weaver curriculum isn't going to work this year. Before I'd even bought the Weaver, I'd purchased BJUP Bible curriculum and I want to do that one. We've started it and I love it more than I did before we started it. The Weaver has a Bible lesson also and the rest of the lessons are built around that. So, do you see the problem? I don't want to bog my children down with 2 separate Bible lessons a day, but that's the whole POINT of the Weaver, the Biblical base the lesson brought from around it. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas. Should I go ahead with what I have or should I shelve it for a year and find somethin else for this year until we finish the Bob Jones Bible? Any opinions will help. Even if they aren't what you think I'd like to hear. LOL! Thanks in advance. It's much appreciated.
  22. Oh wow! As I was reading I was thinking sounds like our every trip out. Lol. Except when we get in the vehicle to go there is fighting and the little one cries most of the way because he hates to be restrained. Hehe. But then I got to that scary guy part. Oh my! Well the good part is that if you didn't go into pre term labor after that day, you'll be good for the rest of the pregnancy, right? Just kidding. Wow. I'm sorry you had such a day! Incredible was a great choice of words I think!
