  1. I have a question for anyone who has used ACDC Economics videos. I'm really interested in buying the Teacher Resources to use with a small co-op class I'll be doing this year. However, I'm not sure what text to use with the program. What book did you use with the videos? Did you use the teacher resources and worksheets? What did you think of them? Thank you!
  2. Hi! I'm going to be facilitating a logic and debate course for 7th-12th graders at a co-op that will consist of a mix between secular and Christian homeschoolers. I've been looking at Art of Argument and Critical Thinking Skills Book 1. I'm also open to other suggestions. I'm trying to find a curriculum that isn't overly religious so as not to alienate my secular students. I'd like to avoid controversial topics such as abortion, rape and prostitution. Is the new edition of AoA free of these? This is a broad range of ages. Would either of those books be better for appealing to middle school and high school students? Thank you so much for your help!
  3. 1st and 5th grade are the perfect ages as they are both in SOTW1 Ancients according to the "master plan". I haven't gotten to 5th grade yet, so I'm not sure what I would add to make it more in depth, but definitely keep them on the same schedule and supplement your 5th grader with additional books and activities. I just looked at the Well Trained Mind and it has some great information on how to supplement for a 5th grader.
  4. This reminds me of a conversation with my FIL's wife. She is generally very supportive of homeschooling, but she told me once about how my BIL really should continue his education, but he is unable to sit still through an entire class period. She told me I really should put DD8 in some classes at some point to prevent this. Of course, a little while I after the conversation, I really thought about it. BIL was in public school PK - 12 so being in classes didn't help prevent that problem for him. Why would that work for my child? There are aspects to learning style that are going to be there whether someone is home schooled or public schooled and I think the preference for one on one v. group is largely one of them. Someone will adapt somewhat to the environment they are in daily, but the inherent preference will remain, IMO. I love the post about trade-offs. That is so true and something I need to remember as a response to those that want to tell me all the opportunities my child is missing.
  5. We are pretty much secular in our homeschooling and I've been to the Southeast convention by the same people. I was also worried since we aren't conservative Christian, but I found a LOT of useful speakers and exhibitors! SWB is an awesome speaker! It looks like she won't be at the SE convention this year, but will be in CA, so I'm jealous! I used to live in OC, so I have 2 reasons to be jealous. lol.
