  1. Farrar, can you share what you're doing for LA? How a typical week goes for you? Thanks!
  2. I used IEW with my older sons for years and it worked very well. It was a great program to grow with all the way through high school. However, W & R looks so interesting that I'm tempted to switch with my younger girls. Just looking for opinions from anyone who has used these 2 programs. Thanks!
  3. I've decided to go with Spelling You See by Karen Holinga. You can see it on the math u see website. I saw it at the home school convention in Cincinnati and I think it looks great. Totally in line with my philosophy on spelling.
  4. For those using MM, which series are you using? Just the Blue Series or the Light Blue Series? Do you think MM is better than MUS? MUS is just not working here. When should I start LOF? She is currently finishing MUS Alpha. Which is really not sticking very well. I'm thinking of starting her on Math Lessons for a Living Education book 1 now and working through the summer. Thanks!
  5. I'm considering using these programs for my dd who will be in 2nd grade next year. If you use these together, how do you do it? Is it a lot of work for the teacher? We've used MUS for the past 2 years and she is really struggling with math. I just purchased Math Lessons for a Living Education from Queen's Homeschool at our convention this weekend. It looks great as well. Thanks for the help! Lisa
  6. Thank you for posting about Living History of Our World! That looks fantastic! We've been trying SOTW 1 this year and it's really just too much for my dd in 1st grade. I just ordered Truth Quest but I think the two will be a great combination! Living History as a great narrative and Truth Quest for a read aloud book list. Blessings, Lisa
  7. Do any of you find this to be true? It seems a bit over my dd's head. She really doesn't recall much when I ask her the narrations questions in the AG. Should I just forge ahead and let her just get what she gets knowing we'll cover this again sometime? Thanks!
  8. Are you talking about Advanced Language Lessons? Oh, I hope not. I so wanted to use that. Lisa
  9. Thanks everyone! I am reading just one section at a time. We are alternating history and science...history one week and science the next. I guess for now I'm just looking for some exposure. I think we'll just keep plugging along and see what happens. One more question? How long did you take to finish the book with it having 42 chapters? I wish it was just 36 and then it would be so easy to just do one chapter per week. Lisa
  10. We've started SOTW1 with our first grader and it seems to be over her head. She's very bright but can't remember much after we've read. There are some pretty big concepts for her. Should we continue and let her get what she gets or wait a year or two? Thanks, Lisa
  11. Thanks for the advice, Katrina. I'm planning on using WWE and FLL as well as AAS so maybe that's really all I need. I'll also probably go through OPG. I kind of know where dd would start that. I have to laugh at myself! This is my third child to homeschool. I have 2 high schoolers but sometimes it feels like my first time all over again. So much has changed since my boys were in first grade!!
  12. Just bumping this to the top. :001_smile:
  13. Did your dc find it confusing if what they were working on in OPG wasn't the same as what they were working on in ETC? Also, I'm planning on starting AAS level 1 with dd. Is all this too much? Should I just start the spelling and not do OPG or ETC? Or just do AAS and OPG? Thanks! Lisa
  14. Bump Does anybody use these together?
  15. Cutting the spine off is what I'll probably do. I also thought of putting the teacher pages in page protectors in a binder so they'll be kept neat for my next dd. Lisa
  16. Currently we are using RME and the RME workbooks and it's going well. We finish the book next week. However, I noticed RME doesn't seem nearly as complete as OPG. My dd likes the RME workbooks and it does give her some reenforcement of the concepts she's learning. I'm thinking of using the second part of OPG next year for dd though since there is so much more in that book. So, if you use OPG and ETC how well do they go together? Do I need to use ETC at all? Thanks! Lisa
  17. I just bought WWE yesterday at the Cincinnati conference and was wondering if any of you took the book apart? I thought maybe the student pages would be perforated or something so I could tear them out for my daughter to write on but they aren't. How did you handle that? Thanks! Lisa
  18. Thanks for the advice. I'm probably going to use AAS 1 next year so it sounds like that would take care of it! Blessings, Lisa
  19. My dd (6) is finishing up RME in 2 weeks. She's reading great! However, I was looking through my copy of OPG and noticed there are quite a few sounds she hasn't learned with RME. Do you think I should go back through OPG and do those lessons or just let her keep reading and start spelling in 1st grade next year? Thanks! Lisa
  20. DD (5) is currently using RME for phonics and will finish the book in May. She's reading wonderfully! I'm wondering what to do for 1st grade? If she's already reading well, will PR feel likes she's going backwards? Opinions, please! Thanks!
  21. Do you know if TWTM book will have an update when SWB finishes Advanced Language Lessons and Writing With Skill? Isn't there a rhetoric level for grammar and writing as well or am I not remembering correctly? How about adding the new history series into the rhetoric stage? Thanks!
  22. WTM uses Spelling Workout but I see a lot of people using AAS. Which one do you use and why? Thanks!
  23. Thanks everyone. I think we might give it a try with the audio CD's next school year. Lisa
  24. I know SWB recommends SOTW for grades 1 - 4 but I'm wondering who has actually used it for those grades. Did it seem too hard or over their heads? If you didn't use it in grades 1 - 4, when did you start and did it work out better for you? Thanks!
