  1. I've been reevaluating BP all afternoon and I think WP is still the winner.

Question: I see that WP has reading from history spines and read aloud but no assigned reading? I guess that's fine. I have a list from LCC for him to complete so no biggie I suppose.

I'm also wondering how many WP exclusives and extras of timelining and maps I'll need. Perhaps I need to start a new thread (and investigate past ones).

Thanks for all of your help:D

Have you been to the WP boards? I know there are a couple of families who will be using QMA next year and several who just finished. You might be able to find your answers there. We used a WP program last year and the assigned reading is part of the LA program. You can buy just the schedule, the schedule with the readers, or the whole LA set, including worksheets, spelling, vocab, etc.

  2. Thanks you all so much for your kind words. We all miss her terribly and have cried until it doesn't seem possible that we can have more tears. Of course we do, because we cry again. Indy is having a tough time. We had her for 7 years before he was born and he's never experienced a loss. Our other 2 dogs are incredibly depressed. Dutch has never been away from her for more than an hour or so. She was 4 when we got him and he was about 6 weeks old. Once she finally accepted him as part of the pack, they became best friends and Dutch seems lost. He keeps looking for her. I feel so sad for him. Thanks again for your kindness and taking the time to go have a look at my sweet girl. Many people thought she was ugly, but to me she was the most beautiful girl ever.

  3. Yesterday we had to have our 14 year old baby put to sleep. It was so hard. We could have put her on extensive medication and gotten a few more months or maybe a year with her, but there were no guarantees and that would have been selfish. She was so sweet and loving and a great friend. If you'd like to see photos of my girl, you can click here. We're all devastated. Indy, Mr. HH and I have all cried several times. If our other 2 dogs could cry I think they would. They're so sad.

  4. Best cleanser, EVER! Put it in your cart now!!!

:iagree::iagree::iagree: YES! I also love their Hope in a Jar moisturizer. I have been using Philosophy for about 3 years now and get compliments on my skin often. It totally changed my skin texture. I've always been lucky to have good skin (thanks mom and dad for that), but Philosophy made it even better. You can't go wrong with anything by them. I'm an Amazing Grace fan too. I have people stop me and ask what I'm wearing because I smell so good. Yay!

If you're looking for good brushes the Sephora line of make up brushes is actually quite nice. Kiss Me mascara is my favorite mascara. Have fun shopping!

  5. Pink Fluff

    1 can cherry pie filling

    1 tub cool whip

1 can (or 2 small cans) sweetened condensed milk

    1 can pineapple tidbits (drained)

    1/2-3/4 bag of mini marshmallows

Mix 1st 3 ingredients well and let sit for 30-45 minutes in the refrigerator. Mix in pineapple and marshmallows. Keep in refrigerator until ready to serve. Can sit out for 2-3 hours. This is delicious and very pretty if you put it in a clear bowl. You can also top with another layer of plain cool whip of you like and top wit mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings. Super easy and everybody loves it.

  6. I think History Odyssey would do what you're looking for.

:iagree: We're using HO Middle Ages this coming year. We're using level 1, but for 6th grade you'd probably want level 2. I really like how it's laid out and they give great suggestions for books. Many of them are available used on amazon or abebooks.com, but luckily for us our library has many of them. :001_smile:

  7. Have him take the FAST class. Dh had a 108 on his GT and needed a 110 as well. He took the FAST class (I think it's a week long and free) and took the test the following week. He scored a 136 on the GT (140 is the highest you can go). Dh has now been a warrant officer for 2.5 years and doesn't regret it for a minute. He's so much happier (and better paid, even though he was Sr. NCO). Have you dh go to the education office on post and find out when the next FAST class is held. Best of luck!

  8. It's expensive because the assumption is that a school will own just one - buying the book allows photocopying for an entire class.

    Laura

I guess that makes sense but it stinks for hsers. I was trying to figure out why it was so expensive. I thought maybe it was edged in gold.

  9. I don't think the meal was elaborate. Seems pretty standard to me. As for snacking, we do have snacks, but mostly stuff like fruit (whole fruit, not canned or fruit snacks), rice cakes (which for some reason Indy is obsessed with), pretzels and yogurt. I don't let him have them all the time, just mid-afternoon. He goes outside most afternoons and he gets hungry from all the running around and playing. During school I'll let him have an apple or pretzels mid-morning, just to help keep him focused. If he's hungry he doesn't focus.

  10. People like that don't deserve to own dogs! It makes me so mad. You handled it very well. I'm afraid I would have gone off on her. :cursing: Rude woman.

When we lived in TN, one of our dogs got under our fence (we have small dogs) and we didn't know it. It was night time and we'd let them out to go to do their business. They had been out for about 30 minutes (standard for them) when the phone rang and it was a guy 2 streets over telling me that he had our dog. I completely freaked out because I didn't even know he was missing and ran over to get him. The family was sitting out of the front porch loving on him and I cried when I saw him because I was so upset that he had gotten out and so relieved to see him. I was so thankful to them for catching him and calling me right away. I hugged them all and took them a cake the next day. Our dogs are like children to us. We love them. I can't imagine what I would have done if something had happened to him.

  11. One that I did to help Indy learn his blends was super easy and fun and would really work with any sounds. I took post-its and wrote 1 blend on each in large letters (sp, ch, etc). and put them randomly on the floor. He stood in the center and I would say a sound. He had to hop to the correct blend. He loved this. I also placed them in a zigzag pattern down a long hall and into the living room and he had to hop along the trail on one leg, saying the sound before he hopped. If he got it wrong, he had to go back to the beginning and start over. Exercise AND phonics!

Another one was to put blends, endings, letters, etc, on post-its and line them in rows on the table. I would randomly place an m&m or 2 on a few of them. I would place 3 or 4 m&ms on the last one. He had to read along the rows, starting with the bottom row, saying the sounds. If he got to an m&m he could eat it if said the sound correctly. If he missed one, he had to start over. Getting to those m&ms was a big deal. If he completed it, I would mix them up (he's really good at remembering patterns) and we'd do it all over again.

  12. We will be using level 1 next year and I've already downloaded and printed it out. I love how it's laid out. In the front there is a week break down (36 weeks) and you can separate the weeks with tabs. I think even level one has a lot of good content. Yes, some of the books are out of print, but many libraries might have them or they can be bought used through amazon or abebooks. I've already bough a ton of used books and checked my library website and found that they have most of the books I'm looking for. Each week has several books listed, so if you can't find one, odds are you can find another. Which set are you looking to use? We're using Middle Ages level 1. Indy can't wait to start.
