  1. Good information, thanks! BTW, I ran combofix last night, have my log and now have absolutely no idea what to do next. :) What did you do next when you used it? I don't notice anything different. When it restarted, everything was the same as when the virus hit, except that I have a couple of desktop icons restored. How do I know it worked? Do I now run my AVG again? How do I begin reinstalling Windows? Do I need to post my log on the Bleeping Computer forum? Help, please. :)
  2. Getting ready to do Combofix... I've been thinking all day, would I not have this problem if I had a Mac???? I have friends with Mac's and they never have problems! One friend has had her Mac laptop for 8 years, no trouble, only running out of memory space now. I'm thinking of going Mac sometime in the future... I'm out of brain energy to fix these virus issues!
  3. Gotcha. My backup failed earlier which is why I'm using flash drives to save everything. Is my external hard drive ruined or just the attempted backups from today? I'll check out combofix. Thanks! ETA: by everything I mean newer documents, pictures, videos and favorites that weren't on the previous backup. Do I also need to save all my programs to reinstall, too, or will my previous backups take care if that?
  4. Some success! I found the hidden folders and files and I'm working on unhiding them now. After I do that, I backup or save to flash drive and then do I reinstall windows and restore from my backup and flashdrive?
  5. Thanks! Yes, I have a date for each back up. It was not connected when everything happened. I plug it in each time I back up. I hope the files are hidden because I did not back up my most recent work which took me days to do. I did school schedules and lots of other documents for our homeschool. I really do not want to redo it, but that is that if I have to. I hope they are just hidden. I'll update later. Thanks so much for your help.
  6. I've been backing it up often, so I hope the external hard drive I've been using to back up has everything on there. I can't see that everything's been backed up, it just has a file from the last date I backed up. I have to restore it to see what it is. I hope it worked. I've backed up for a couple of years now, but again, never been able to double check to see what or if it actually worked. Here's hoping... One more question...when I scan, I see some things that I cannot see on the desktop or in the Start menu. For example, my screen saver does not run the pictures I installed, but when I ran my AVG, I saw those individually come up. So, I'm wondering if my files are still there, but I just can't see them? If I do a back up and those files are actually there, even though I can't see them, will they successfully back up?
  7. Thanks to both of you! If I reinstall Windows, do I lose everything? As Malwarebytes scanned, I saw all my pictures going through and getting scanned, so I have not lost those and I'm guessing I've not lost other stuff, too. I'm guessing it's hidden, not failed. I've been looking up stuff for hours. Thanks for recommending bleeping computer. I saw that one come up a lot, but have not gone to it yet.
  8. I figured out a way to get on the internet and I'm on, even though I don't have the IE icon or program listed. I downloaded malwarebytes and am running it now. Anybody can chime in anytime or I can have a conversation all by myself! Also, the only drives it shows I have when I open my "Computer" icon is the C drive and F drive. Usually, I see the others.
  9. I've gotten great help in the past and have saved my computer (and $$$!) because of you smart ladies. :) I need help again, please. Unfortunately, my dad was here and we were visiting, so my attention was divided and I was not able to look at it or start working on it until later. I probably also missed some details that would probably be helpful. I hope you can help me figure something out. Here's the situation... I accessed a web page today and immediately got a message that AVG detected a threat (don't remember what it said, but I think I saw something about malware and the word "black" in it, removed it to vault and then started my AVG whole computer scan. In the middle of the scan, it quit scanning (but had already detected three problems... a trojan maybe (didn't see the name) and two other things) and a box popped up that said something about the "hard disk failure" and then several other small boxes continuously popped up that said something about the hard disk or hard drive and something about the "white box" or "write box", again, not really sure. (I don't know if that makes sense) I also noticed that most of my desktop icons were gone and my screen saver of pictures did not launch saying there were no pictures in C:. After a few minutes, the blue crash screen comes up. This screen has come up several times before over the last couple of years, but I just restart it and it's fine. I turned it off, waited a bit, turned it back on and went into safe mode with networking. I only have three icons-- computer, network, and recycle bin. When I open "Start", I'm missing all the default programs that are visible when you open that box and also missing many programs, too, when I click on "All Programs". I do not have IE, Windows Explorer, Control Panel, etc. to be able to open the internet or anything else that might be helpful. My AVG was limited on the files, but I finally was able to run it through the AVG Tray Icon. Most all of the files scanned said "Program locked. Scan not done" or something like that. Windows/Installer and Temp were two that said "virus detected. moved to vault" or something like that. I couldn't tell, but even though the scan went on for awhile, it seemed to stop abruptly again and then took me back to the beginning screen where you start the scan. I never received a box that said the scan was complete. I know that is a lot of information and maybe not very clear, but hopefully someone can guide me to solve it or tell me what to do next. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for anything!
  10. I was never regular and ended up being diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) at age 27. Looking back, I probably always had PCOS, but it is usually not diagnosed until later when you usually have trouble getting pregnant, among other symptoms. This may or may not be your daughter's future since she's so young and just started and that could have something to do with it, but as time goes on and the irregularity persists for years, you might keep that in mind. I was athletic all through jr. high and high school playing volleyball, so I just accepted the fact that being athletic can make you irregular. However, in my case, it was actually something else.
  11. Thanks! This is for no. 4, so I'll still be carrying a lot. I am usually a "just in case" carrier, but have gotten better over the years. :). I like the Vera Bradley line and they look like they can be continually used after baby. I like the bags you all have recommended, too.
  12. Thank you for your words and your book list. He loves Narnia and Horse and His Boy is his favorite! He's reading through the series again for his literature curriculum beginning in the fall, so, he'll read it again! I've never heard of the Wilderking series. Sounds great!
  13. Great! I would love book recommendations like that, too. We also choose books like that and I have lots of book list books to help, as well as our literature curriculum that is chock full of good, classic literature and other like-minded friends that I glean from. I always love more! Thank you!
  14. I guess I mean that he needs to increase in his forethought and responsibility. He responds to correction, but I want to see more of him being responsible for his own behavior and character and caring about the fact that what he says and does affects those around him. I know that comes with maturity and more than anything else, salvation and the Lord working in him. He will always be growing (as we all will), but we want to come alongside him in every way as we guide and direct him. Thanks for your words and hugs.
  15. grow into a Godly young man and help mold his Godly character into the man, husband and father that God created him to be? Manners and gentlemanly character, too. The Bible is #1 and we do family worship each evening as well as being committed to a local church body that establishes and supports the biblical family and biblical roles of man/woman. I'm looking for supplemental resources that we can give our son (11) to read as he grows to have that be an influence as well. Some that I know of are: Created for Work Boyhood and Beyond What He Must Be www.monergism.org has great pdf's from older theologians that are great, as well as present day sermons, lectures, conference presentations, etc. that you can download and listen to from theologians today to build him up, too. (John Macarthur, Tedd Tripp, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, etc., etc...numerous others!) DoorPosts materials (Plants Grown Up, etc.) Obviously, some of these are not for his age right now (What He Must Be), but soon enough. I would love more suggestions. He's not yet taken responsibility for his own character and behavior. I know maturity will help, but I want to be cultivating it in him, too. Thank you!
  16. Both of those recs look good! A Mile in His Shoes looks like a good one for the family. Source Code looks like a movie we would like and that's great that it's not supposed to have any sexuality in it. Surprising!
  17. A friend told me she was disappointed at the immodesty displayed in it, especially since it is about a Christian girl. I haven't looked at anything about it because it wasn't a movie that I had looked into, just going on her review. I didn't even ask her what level of immodesty she was talking about. Bikinis on either the surfer or the other people on the beach or just regular swimsuits? This particular friend is very picky about swimsuits. I should have asked to confirm what range she was using. What do you think?
  18. I have the feeling I've asked this before, but I can't find it in a search. I've been on cautious/partial bed rest and will continue on bed rest for the next 4 weeks, at least. I'm sitting/reclining most of the time. DH has been so great, but seems to go non-stop with his added home duties. I would love to watch a movie with him and let him relax, but we are very picky, very. We've changed since our younger years and are now very careful about movies with any nudity, sex scenes, scantily clad women, etc., etc... We just don't tolerate it. It limits our choices greatly. We've watched the Kendrick Brothers movies a lot and while we love them, we want something new. :) We also love all different kinds of movies, they just have to be clean. Any recs from other conservative, picky movie watchers?
  19. I agree with The Woodlands and Cypress area. Both are good areas, growing and great resale. If you need a realtor, I can PM you a recommendation. He is a Christian and very nice and helpful. We used to go to church with him.
  20. Yay, so I'm normal! :) Thanks, everyone. I'm even more encouraged now and realize that all the ups and downs weren't my fault, it's just the way it is for most everyone and it gets easier as time goes on. I've never gone past the first few weeks, so I always thought I was broken. Glad to know I'm not and to just give it time and give myself a break. I wish I would have had you all with my 1st! I'm going to look into all you recommended.
  21. Which one meets those qualifications? :)
  22. I've heard of the My Brestfriend and it looks like it is more helpful than the boppy and would stay in place since it is attached to you and you can tighten or loosen as needed.
  23. In addition to not being able to BF for too long with my past dc, I also do not have great coordination for BF. :tongue_smilie: I watch other mommas and they make it look so easy, but for me it's not that way. It's a whole production to just get situated and positioned with 5 pillows, nursing cover, holding my body in a just so position once the baby gets latched so as to not lose a good latch, etc. I also have never breastfed and had both hands free. I always push my breast in slightly away from the baby's nose because I'm so afraid the baby can't breath. I wish I could do it as easy as I see some mommas, even with newborns and first time mommas. I'm just sad and uncoordinated. So, I would love to hear what supplies or helpful BF'ing things you have found. I've used a boppy in the past, but felt like it slipped down so often that it didn't help hold up the baby and there was also a space between me and the boppy that the baby would fall into, so the boppy became pointless to use for me because I was holding the baby the same way I would if I didn't have the boppy. I also don't feel comfortable nursing and usually sit forward and however needed to make sure the baby has the breast. Other mommas still look just as comfortable as always, sitting up, checking their phone, holding a book, etc. Not me. I'm a circus. I'm planning on talking with my pro-BFing friends and getting pointers as well as contacting LLL, but in the meantime, I would like to hear your advice. You ladies are so helpful!
