Yes...chocolate is always welcome!

My older sons are using Latin in the Christian Trivium and are learning a lot. We don't do it online, but they offer it.

Cruises are fun. We were surprised at how much "adult" time we had when we went. Our kids loved the children's program and spent a lot of time doing those activities. We also loved the food and the service. It was nice not to have to cook or clean up!
The dude ranch idea sounds good also...as long as it includes a housekeeper and cook!
It's all about making memories, so whatever you do as a family, you will be blessed.
Have fun!

Another vote for Land's End. I am a "long torso" and I can always find a suit there that fits me.

We've just started using Simply Spelling. It combines spelling within the context of dictation and copywork. We've only been using it a couple of weeks, but so far, so good. We had used Spelling Workout and he would memorize the words each week, but I couldn't see the carry-over into his writing. The Simply Spelling approach makes them look at the words in context.

I consider myself "low maintenance", however, I do put on makeup every day and dress. I usually wear shorts and a simple top. On days where we go places, I dress up a little more. I don't "pile" the makeup on, but I do feel "naked" without it. I take a shower after I exercise in the mornings, put on makeup and dress presentably. One motivational factor for me is that I like to look good for my hubby. Another is that I just plain feel better when I'm showered and set for the day! (And you never know when you're going to have to be seen by others!)

Whatever my mom is serving! We celebrate Easter with my parents! I'll probably make and take something, though.

I heard him do a 45 minute talk at last year's FPEA (FL) homeschool convention. He was excellent. I was going to buy this set until I found out he was going to be teaching this live in Tampa this week. My older two are going to this class on Thursday and will be taught "live" by Andrew Pudewa. (I am going also!) The live classes ended up costing me more than the DVDs, but I thought it would be good for the boys to hear him live...maybe they would pay attention more!!!
We started using IEW this year and I have been very pleased. I have seen improvement in their writing, which is the important thing!
I will let you know how the course goes. Hopefully someone will be able to give you a review of the DVD course. I know it holds its value when you want to sell it.

I bought one from Sonlight and have been very pleased with it. My ds is using it for Apologia's Biology. It's very well made and a good buy for the money. I think it was $197.

Oh, I forgot to say, I think I went about 3 days before the cruise. They said it would take a couple of days to really "set".

I think I paid $25 at a tanning place and a girl sprayed it on. (You can wear an old bathing suit or underwear...or all natural!). I have heard of some places where you go in a room (with your underwear on!) and the machine sprays it on you. (My parents did it this way for the cruise. I think my "personal" spray tan looked better. They went two times before the cruise, I only went once and mine was just as dark or darker.) They did my face as well. It wasn't SUPER dark, just a nice glow! Mine wasn't streaky or "orangey" looking.
My advice would ask around your area and see what places people recommend.
Have fun!

If you see him in person, you will be sold on the program! I saw him last year at Florida's FPEA convention and bought the program. I have been extremely pleased! This Thursday my older sons and I are attending the High School SAT Intensive course taught by Andrew Pudewa.

Get a "spray on" tan. I got one before I went on a cruise...it wasn't "orangey" like some of them...so you might want to get some references. You may want to use Jergens or some other brand of self-tanning lotions. The Jergens one doesn't smell as funny as some and is also a lotion. It doesn't look "orangey", but does require quite a few coats to get a "glow."
Have fun on the cruise!

We love ours, too! We use it at least once a day.

Congratulations! A nice quiet, romantic dinner or weekend away would be nice. What are his hobbies? Any special edition book or something? A weekend doing something that he would like to do...and you could just go along to show him how much you love him?!
I'm sure you'll think of something nice!
Congrats on both accounts!

My 13 ds uses the "Vocabulary Cartoons SAT" book and loves it. It is broken into sections with about 10 words. He will study the cartoons during the week and then I give him the quiz at the end. I then keep quizzing him on past words. He really enjoys it and it helps with him remembering what they mean. He took the College Board SAT test in January and recognized about 3-4 words from the book....and knew what they meant!!!
I plan on adding the elementary book to my youngest son next year (5th grade). I would play around with it and see how many words he could really remember each week and then keep reviewing the past words.
Hope that helps :)

We started in Latin Prep I and like it SO much more than LC. It explains things well and is colorful and fun to read. It gets them translating things on the first page, which was a boost to my son's confidence.
Have fun!

My favorite was Root Beer!

Vitamix...it's great for LOTS of things!

We just started this two weeks ago...so far, so good! It seems to be a more effective and efficient way of spelling for my ds. He was good at "memorizing" lists, but couldn't apply them in his spelling. Hopefully this will help him apply the words to his spelling.

We've just started using this based on your recommendation. I like it because it includes work for grades 3-12. We're only on week 2 now...so far, so good!

Bring 'em on!!
I agree! Please share them!
Thanks!

If $$ was no option, (question re private school)
in General Education Discussion Board
Posted
I brought my kids home from a private school 2 years ago and haven't regretted it one bit. Yes, they received a better education than the ps around here at the private Christian school, but not better than the one I am providing now. They are at least a grade level ahead now in math, have done Latin for 2 years and have a much better relationship with each other. They don't want to return to the private school either.
On the other hand, if I felt that I wasn't providing an adequate education for them...and money wasn't an option...I would look into a private school. Homeschooling isn't for everybody. It takes a lot of hard work and heart!
