  1. Hey, perhaps some of you gals have gotten my mail? I ordered a complete Sonlight curriculum used, 50 books in all, and by the time the box got to me it was ripped on 2 sides, taped back up, and only had 4 books in it! :( I complained to the postmaster and he said he wouldn't send a box out in that condition. So I'm apparently a liar?! I filed a claim with the USPS 800 number and they said not to expect any results. Erg! No partial refund from seller either for no insurance on package. I'm starting to think UPS is worth the extra $.
  2. Not great, not bad. We got a late start and didn't get half of what we usually plant into the garden but what we did plant is doing well. We planted blueberry plants this year, got a great harvest from our strawberry plants we planted two years ago, a few raspberries with a bigger crop soon, blackberries galore, moved a mulberry that we've had for 10 years that has never produced, (noticed after we moved it that it had berries....no more..:( ), horses broke through fence and ate most of the fruit trees we planted last year.....
  3. I just joined Borders Books as a plus member to get free shipping on used books a month or so ago and now they are going out of business! Why is it every time I find a really good deal they disappear? If I had known that was going to happen I would have ordered my next 4 years of books! I was getting most of my books from them for $1.04 with free shipping. Ugh! Ok, enough whining. Does anyone know of a book seller with a similiar program? Free shipping on used books with membership? Sigh...
  4. He doesn't seem to point exclusively with his left. The first time I asked him he used his left right away but then, other times, his right. I guess time will tell. Thank you for your input.
  5. Unfortunately, I think we've influenced him to use his right hand before we realized he was a lefty so he's "used" to using that hand. I just think he might be better/neater if we could get him to try his left. My mom is a lefty and when she writes she seems to come from above the page.?
  6. My 4 1/2 ds is very ambidextrous. He started batting right-handed, (because that is what we all did), and throwing and catching the same but then we noticed he seemed to throw with his left hand so we have tried him on his left with sport activities and he seems to do better that way. My question now is with writing. I had always taught him right-handed so that is what he did, very shaky mind you. I just assumed it was his age until we noticed he seemed to be left-handed. I've tried putting the pencil in his left hand to see how that will work for him but he just switches it back to his right. His grandmothers are both lefties but unfortunately not nearby to help with showing him how to hold the pencil and I don't know anyone else that could help. Should I continue trying to get him to switch or leave him be? He seems way far behind his brother in writing skills. He just doesn't have the coordination which is why I thought switching him might make it easier for him. ???
  7. The notebooks do have a suggested schedule to follow listing what pages to read in the textbook and what pages to do in the notebook. In my opinion combining a lapbook with the notebook would be overkill. I look at the notebook as a lapbook for dummies. :) I am creatively challenged and the guided activities in the notebook are just what I wanted with beautiful artwork and illustrations. Hope that helps!
  8. So I've been reading reviews till my eyes bug. I taught my girls to read with 100 EZ lessons and Abeka and they did fine but my 6ds seems to trip on the loopholes. I'm looking for a "fun" program for him and his 4 year old brother to use. I get bored easy so WRTR and SWR are out. These are programs that got good reviews that are possibilities so if you have any input I would appreciate it. 1. Explode the Code Series 2. Phonics Pathways 3. Ordinary Parents Guide 4. Saxon Phonics 5. Sing Spell Read and Write (gasp, gulp, cough, is it worth the pricetag) I've been leaning towards this one because it seems like one my boys would enjoy with the games and music and bright colors. Aagh! Too many choices. I need to thumb through them to make a decision but there are no bookstores locally that sell them and I missed the curriculum show.
  9. We live on summer squash/zucchini during the summer! Cut it in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds and some of the flesh. Now stuff it with anything you can imagine. Bacon, chicken, beef, rice, spaghetti, bread crumbs or crackers, onions, garlic, salsa, peppers, eggs, etc.. Then top it with a slice of tomatoe and cheese and bake in oven until a fork stuck in the side goes in easily. My kids love it this way and we mix up the ingredients so we don't tire of any one recipe.
  10. I just discovered Borders.com . I paid $20 for a plus membership and I get free shipping on all books I order with no minimum purchase required. Most of the books I get there are used books for about $1.04 and have been in great shape for used. Now we can afford to get a "new" book in the mail every week!
  11. Just thought I'd update. We had the ultrasound today and the baby's a girl! My dd is moving forward, getting closer to God, and getting excited about being a mom. God is awesome!!! Thank you everyone for your encouragement.
  12. I was on the buyer end of lost mail recently and was ok with splitting the money as both of us were out the item. I only pay for shipping confirmation for expensive items when I am shipping because it is costly.
  13. Aww! I wish everyone had a friend as sweet as you. Thanks for always being there. I love ya and not just cause I have to.;)
  14. I have cast iron pans and love them! I don't have to worry about scratching them, nothing sticks, durable, they make good weapons, and I get a workout everytime I cook.;)
  15. My dd was all excited when we got a new for us mini-van with rear windshield wipers. She ran into church, and told everyone to come see our fini-fan with the swisher swashers!
