I used to use Ebates, but there were so many times that I would have to call and submit my receipt because they didn't post my rebate. It was more hassle than it was worth.
I had to do the same thing a few times. I've since moved on to mypoints.com. You earn points instead and then submit for reward cards. I've had times I had to email to get my points, etc. but it always worked out - highly recommend:)

Here's a book just for this:
"Fix, Freeze, Feast: Prepare in Bulk and Enjoy by the serving - More than 125 Recipes," by Kati Neville
I haven't tried any yet, but I was able to borrow it from the library:)

I am actually blessed with a 9 year old son who DOES get a new roll out....and discards the empty one on the floor....right under the holder...2 feet from the garbage can...don't ask me...

Mine are 12 and 9, and I don't think they are ready for that yet. DS12 is still too immature, and DS9 is scared if I take a nap. Plus, we live at least 15 - 20 minutes to anything (we are in the woods), so a quick trip would be at least 30 - 40 minutes just for drive time :(

We use "Soaring with Spelling and Vocabulary" for 4th grade. My son does it independently and doesn't mind doing spelling one bit! I think the cost is $15.00 or so...
If he was having trouble with a few words, we have used Spelling City also (the free version).

Time will depend on the grade and how long your school year is.
There are reports that tell you if they passed and/or grades. You can easily print them out.
There are also additional worksheets that can be printed. We used T4L in 5th grade, so we could print out math, and some social studies/science.
He, for the most part, liked the program but got sick of everything being on the computer. He wished for a textbook once in a while - go figure;)

We are using LOF fractions for my ds12. He is a hater of math and it takes him forever to complete anything. He loves Fred! It really makes him think and his retention has been a lot better :)

What about a white board? I haven't tried it with chores...but if I list his subjects with the assignment, he seems to respond better to it then say a checklist on paper. He could erase or check off the chore after he does it? My kids like any excuse to use the white board, so maybe that's why it works...LOL.
Just a thought:)

So......is it a bad thing if you DO study Latin? There was such a response to this thread, I was curious. We start homeschooling tomorrow, and Latina Christiana I is on the list. He is also doing Spanish online, but it is SO simple for him right now.
I want him to know a living language at some point, but I like the idea of studying Latin. He's into science, A LOT, and Latin works well for that. Just curious.
Do what you want to do (what's right for your kids) and don't worry about everyone else :)

Have you looked at Oak Meadow?
There is not any sidebars and other distracting things on the page.
Its a textbook but doesn't read like a textbook.
They have sample pages on their website.
:iagree:We use Oak Meadow for 6th grade. Their books are more like living books.

We did Timeforlearning for part of 5th grade. It is independent and you can suppliment more reading for the science and social studies topics. I don't think it's a bad start :)

I would personally look to incorporate more classes & group activities to meet socialization needs before going back to PS. Middle school/jr. high is the absolute worst time socially when it comes to B&M schools.
:iagree: She doesn't have to go back to PS to have friends. Unfortunately, a lot of us have to travel to get together with other homsechoolers. It might be worth the effort:)

Both of my sons take Isshin Ryu karate (one has ADHD). I highly recommend it. I was really worried about the discipline part, but it was never a problem.
The instructor is really important, as others have stated. We talked to ours and let him know what my sons status was. It has worked out great:)

Our internet service is Comcast and they give you Norton for free. No problems here :)

Books, of course! ;)

My ds12 has been a real pill lately. He is not autistic, but has ADHD. I think it's the age :glare:
What about friends? Do you belong to any homeschool groups or co-ops? Do you still stay in touch with his PS friends? That has been a slight issue for us - he misses one friend terribly. We try to get together with him as much as possible, but it doesn't work out quite often. Maybe that is bothering him as well? Just a thought.
Also, we are in Warren county, N.J. :)

No latin here either. We just started homeschooling last spring, so both of my boys were taking American Sign Language in PS. We are planning/hoping to start Spanish next year for 7th grade.

Another Oak Meadow user here:) DS12 who is currently in 6th grade is using:
Oak Meadow: Science, History (which has geography, writing, vocab., grammar and art incorporated in it),
Growing with Grammar 6
Oak Meadow Math and Life of Fred Fractions
- we also do some logic workbooks and Apologia Science Flying Creatures (because they love birds and bugs!)
- There are also some required reading with OM and like everybody else, LOL, we do lots of independent reading :)
-
We use mostly Oak Meadow (which is secular) for my ds11. Math is the major problem here also. We use OM Math - it's much gentler than, say, Saxon (the constant review questions would kill him!). We also use OM Science and Social Studies. Since he is in 6th grade, there is a lot of writing (this is incorporated in the social studies and/or science assignments). If the writing is too much, we just review the assignments orally, etc. Art and geography is also incorporated into the social studies assignments.
For grammar we use Growing with Grammar. He doesn't mind it all. There is short lesson and 2 workbook pages to complete (1 page is of review).
We also use Apologia Flying Creatures (along with his brother) and he has loved it.

My DH has called me about 6 or 7 times this morning. I am busy cleaning for a birthday celebration tonight and babysitting three little boys. I politely told him to stop calling me. A few minutes later I received a text from him that said, "I am the boss of you."
What would be the best response to that? :D
Since he would have definitely annoyed me greatly by this time....I would have typed back, "So you think....."

We also use GWG2 and my son really likes it. It doesn't take him very long and isn't overwhelming for him.
You've started Logic already? What kind of workbooks do you use?
We are using Logic Countdown. It is for grades 3 - 4. He really likes it and it doesn't seem like work (that's the best kind!). We also have Mind Benders, but haven't used them yet.
-
I think both my kids started in 2nd grade when they were in PS.
-
My ds is currently using:
Oak Meadow - social studies, science, math, art
Growing with Grammar
Soaring with Spelling and Vocabulary
Handwriting
Logic workbooks
I think that's it...

I only get a letter from an old elementary school friend. I don't know how I feel about it...sometimes I feel it is nothing more than a brag session....and no, there is nothing personalized about it (same one goes to however many people).
Ah, whatever floats your boat....

I said 13....but that's what I would feel comfortable with my oldest. He is 12 now, and is no where ready to stay home by himself. He gets spooked easily and we live in the woods (and let's face it, sometimes woods are spooky!). Plus we live too far from anything...so a 1/2 hour trip would just be a ride in the car ;)
