  1. Melissa,

I haven't used OM4 yet (planning this fall). Looking at the syllabus, it is written towards the parent more so, than the student. I also have the 6th grade syllabus, and that is geared more towards the student and independent study.

It you really like this curriculum, it might be helpful to get a copy and see if it could work for you. I had to buy one so I could make up my mind, because the samples really aren't enough to look at IMHO :)

    Hope this helps:)

  2. We just started homeschooling last month with my oldest and my youngest will be joining us after this school year. I would like to start in August and try 3 weeks on, 1 week off and see what happens! It would be nice to have that week free for trips, etc. and just a break :)

Anyone every try 3 on, 1 off or something like that?

  3. Oh nuts! I ordered the same syllabus. It is kind of disappointing. I also ordered a 2002 edition for 6th grade and noticed a few things that are now different. I agree with Shari (naturally because I am also a "Sheri"...LOL...), I bought the 2005 'cause it was 1/2 the price. Now I am thinking I should have just bought new for both 4th and 6th grade :(

5% off?? Hope it's 10% at least....that would cover the shipping.

  4. Thanks for the info. Martha - that's the copy I ordered from Amazon.

I also got a used copy of "Indian Legends" from another seller on Amazon. In the table of contents, it has 14 different chapters or stories....I'm not sure, haven't read it yet. It does say," A retelling of the ancient tales."

  5. I just bought the syllabus and teacher manual from the Amazon site, too. 1/2 the price of new ones! I had already purchased the 6th grade science book, which was a 2007, new but had a wrinkle on the binding (?). It was perfectly fine....and cost about $30.00 less (if you factor in OM's shipping rates...OUCH!). Definitely worth looking into those books:)

  6. I'm still undecided about where to buy the crafts.....I can't stand having to go to Michael's on a weekly basis...LOL...too far away and too expensive (regardless of coupons, some things are double the price of the same item sold at Walmart....but Walmart has to have it in order to buy it!) ! But, I really like the idea of buying everything at once and having it on hand - saves the sanity :)

How about you - going to go on a craft hunt??

  7. I will be using OM 6 next fall for my son. I just rec'd (today!) the Ancient Civilization & English books, and the teachers guide (used on ebay - a steal, too!!). I also purchased a new edition of Science book....so now I have to check them all out ;)

  8. NanceXToo, if you don't mind taking a looksie :), could you let us know what versions you have? I recently purchased a 2001 copy of the 6th grade syllabus & teachers guide, and was worrying that I should have bought a newer edition instead. I still have to get the 4th grade set, and I didn't want to make a mistake with that.

    Thanks:)

  9. This was a concern of mine also. I am new to homeschooling - I've been teaching my 11 yrs. old son for approx. a month now. Come this late summer/fall, his 9yr. old bro. will be joining us :)

To be honest, I fell in love with the OM curriculum. It just sounds like such a nice pace, the projects, and bringing the subjects together.

I'm just wondering how I am going to do both the 4th and 6th grade. Right now, the older son is a challenge alone....LOL....he needs a lot of one-on-one time (which is one of the reasons we pulled him out of p.s.). I worry that it might too much with both kids :(

  10. Hello!

I just started homeschooling my 11 yr. old son about a month ago (his little bro. will start this fall). I really would love to change over to OM for 4th and 6th grade this summer/fall.

I'm wondering how this curriculum works out for multiple children;)
