I vote for Chalkdust Algebra 1. It has been working great for us and it meets all of your criteria.
-
We are currently using Chalkdust Algebra 1 with my younger dd. If pre-algrebra is already working, then I would go ahead and give algebra 1 a try. We are already in chapter 7, and have not run into any problems.

Just wanted to let you know that we are using Chalkdust Alg. I and Geometry this year and like both programs. My older dd used Jacob's Alg. I last year and didn't care too much for the DVDs that came with the program. She learned a lot but she prefers the explanations on the Chalkdust DVDs better. My younger dd is enjoying Chalkdust Alg. I.

Just chiming in with my $.02. I also used Write Shop with my older dd before switching over to IEW (only because we now have a wonderful IEW teacher nearby). I loved having everything spelled out for me with Write Shop - since writing is also not one of my strong points - and my dd enjoyed the assignments. It was very easy to use. Good luck with your decision.

When my kids were younger we used Calculadders. I turned it into a contest between both of my children and there was always a fight to the finish line. I even made up a little chart and used stickers to show how they were progressing. It worked and boy do they know their math facts now.

Thanks for the info. KRenee and Jann. I'm thinking we don't need to spend much time reviewing over the summer after all. Yay!!

My dds both take online classes through Potter's School. Next year we are also going to try a couple of classes with Homeschool Science Academy. I find the quality of their work is much higher and I like the fact that they are accountable to someone other than me.

We are currently using Chalkdust Algebra 1 with our younger dd. The material is very thorough and understandable. Highly recommended. ;)

We are currently using Chalkdust Geometry (new version). It is working well for my "mathy" dd. :)

We haven't used it, but I've heard really good things about IEW's spelling program. Not sure what it's called though.:)

We used Singapore in the earlier grades and then switched to Chalkdust. Both programs have worked well for my kids. We did use Saxon 8/7 for one year before starting my younger dd in Chalkdust Alg. I. That really helped solidify her math skills.:)

Oh, I forgot Fallacy Detective and Thinking Toolbox as well.:)
-
My plan for my 8th grade dd is:
World Geography - TPS
IEW - taught by IEW instructor
Chalkdust Geometry
JH French 2 - TPS
French Conversations - TPS
Forensic Anatomy/Pathology - Homeschool Science Academy
Intro. to Literature - Laurel Tree Tutorials
Violin & gymnastics

Okay, just one more post today and then I'll get back to work.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a good read-aloud or book-on-tape for the early 20th century? We are just finishing up with WWI and we already read All Quiet on the Western Front, so I'm looking for something that we can just sit back and enjoy listening to. Any ideas?

Ah yes, Everyday Math . . . the very reason I am a new poster on this forum. Chicago Math was the primary reason we decided to homeschool. It was so difficult to see my 4th grade daughter in tears because she wasn't sure which of the 4 methods to use to solve a problem. Glad that nightmare is over.

I'd be interested in knowing this as well. My daughter is just finishing up with Chalkdust Geometry and I'm wondering how much Alg. 1 reviewing we need to do this summer.:)

I have only posted a few times on this forum, but I have been a silent observer for a couple of years. Anyway, my daughter is currently taking Spanish I with TPS and she recommends the class only if there is a lot of extra support at home. It does require a significant amount of practice on the part of the student, and it certainly helps to have someone else at home who speaks the language. She will be continuing with TPS Spanish 2 next year. Fortunately, TPS has added a "conversations" class which is an extra 90 minute class each week for the students to practice speaking in Spanish and they will receive immediate feedback from the teacher. You should go to the TPS website and read the information about the classes. You might also want to attend one of the online Open Houses. I know they just had one today for the Spanish classes but I'm sure they will be holding 1 or 2 more in the next couple of weeks. Hope this helps.:)

I'm new to posting on this forum but I have been a silent observer for a few years. Anyway, I believe PA Homeschoolers will be offering AP Physics next year. Just send them an email and they can let you know if this is indeed the case.:)
