  1. Thank you for your answers.... Im stumped. Still. I guess when I read and re-read all I have seen on here about all the Math Curriculums, I start to confuse myself lol.... I havent made a decision, but I may use TT as supplement to whichever one I chose. Ugggghhh Math curriculum has been the hardest decision... blah. Maybe its because I am not a math whiz...?:001_huh:
  2. Both my 6th and 7th grade daughters are using the complete curriculum in SOS. Beings that I just started the homeschool adventure 6 months ago, I wasnt sure where to start, and took the advice of a friend and went with a curriculum that was "taught" for me. That graded for me, and everything was all neat and tidy. Since the 6 months and counting, I have noticed for my girls, one does very well the other not so well. In both Math and LA, my concern is that they arent getting enough repetitiveness. So, I have been on my own supplementing in both areas. As of right now, for the past 2 months I have been researching like crazy, bought TWTM book, SCM books and scouting the forum here because I want to take a different approach. I dont really like the girls sitting in front of the PC like they do for all subjects. Plus they tend to get bored , and distracted easily. Math has been a big issue for my 6th grader, not enough explanations. My 7th grader has issues more in LA.. again not enough explanation. I think SOS is a good fit for some, but like posters before it isnt for everyone. Ive decided its not for us. I think maybe one subject on the PC to help with typing etc.. might not be such a bad idea. We have had technical issues, and the customer support has been great. But, still it can be frustrating when your child is right in the middle of a lesson and the PC program refuses to move forward, or just freezes. We have to download and fix bugs to be able to even do our curriculum. Hope that my opinions may help out... and good luck in your decisions..
  3. I noticed that Teaching Textbooks will have 3rd grade ready and out by May of this year... It is for 7-9 year olds and I wanted opinions toward the program if you use it, or know of someone who does? I thought I had narrowed it down to CLE math for my upcoming 3rd grader until I saw this, and then Math U See... Wow, I am having the hardest decision with Math curriculum.. everything else so far as been a breeze compared to trying to figure out with Math approach would work best.. Love to hear your opinions..
  4. Just wanted to say again thank you... I went to our local store Mardel's which carries homeschool curriculum and more.. I looked at Saxon, Singapore and Horizons. I think I will try the one free light book from CLE, and if we dont end up liking it, I think Horizons will be our choice. Especially with my son being slight ADD I believe the Horizons would work best and keep his attention best. Again thank you so much!! You all have been a tremendous help!!
  5. Walk by Faith Academy From the verse: Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Because we live our lives daily by our faith in God... and I have faith that God will help guide us in our homeschool journey.
  6. Wow thank you all so much for your much needed and valuable info!! I think I am going to go for CLE math until he's older and then possibly into Teaching Textbooks... Do any of you use Life of Fred as supplemental? for your older kids? Thanks so much!!
  7. I am new to the whole homeschool scene, and I want to do what's best for the individual child. My older two children 11 and 13 I am not so worried about. They have grown up using Saxon in their public school. My youngest, has a very early birthday and probably should have started kinder a year later but, hindsight.. So here we are 2nd grade 7 and struggling. He needs help in Math and Grammer daily. He is bright and tries so very hard, I feel for him... I really want to make the best decision regarding Math for him, and being new to all of this ( can be a bit overwhelming) to see so much curriculum, and methods.. WOW .. If you dont mind.. could some of the HS veterns help a newbie out? He hasnt done absolutely horrible, but not great with just textbooks. Beings I "jumped" into this head first, he is using LifePacs. He gets so bored and it makes for a rather long day... Im not sure if its just the curriculum, or if he really isnt doing well in the textbook setting? I want to incorporate WTM and SCM this coming school year if not sooner... I dont like feeling like I am letting him down, you know? Thank you so much for any help you may have to give... Amanda HS Newbie to mom of 3 11,13, and 7...
  8. Until now I didnt know about Queen Homeschool Supplies....( thank you for your post) I think we are also going to embark on a new journey by taking the "gentle approach". Im new to all of this, so I dont have any advice other than what I have experienced the last 6 months and I know with a shadow of a doubt that my 7 year old and my 11 year old need a change... I started reading WTM, and then came across SCM and I think I will combine both.... I agree with so much on both of these methods... I wish you noting but the best on your journey... I am enjoying this time with my children, only wish I had decided to do this sooner...:)
  9. This is the example I found online for Spelling workout 2nd grade.. Im also trying to make this decision.. Good Luck! http://www.learningthings.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=PE%2D0813628164&eq=&Tp=
  10. WOW! That's amazing!! Makes me feel good about the choices I am about to make regarding curriculum choices...:hurray:
  11. Yes, I am currently.... But... ( no tomato throwing please :confused1:) I jumped into this, not researching, and so Im learning as I go, and the curriculum Im currently using.... well it isnt what I was wanting. This is just to finish up this year. We are using AO SOS and LifePac. Like, I said this is just to get by until I get the new curriculum ordered and set to go. I want to take the classical approach, and try as I may to teach my children or play catch up. As best we can. I will go check that thread, and figure out all the abbreviations.. Thank you for being so helpful and welcoming..
  12. Ok... Thanks for the advice here goes :) FLL IEW SOTW BJU CLE CWP ETC MCT HWT MEP AAS HOD These are just a few... I feel so overwhelmed... trying to plan for a 3rd, 6th and 7th grader... Im so grateful for any help..
  13. I love this book, The Well Trained Mind, and I only wish I'd found it sooner. I enjoy reading through all the posts regarding curriculum choices, but being new I have a slight problem... would anyone mind posting with the abbreviations stand for? I have found some out, but not all and it would greatly help the newcomers.. Thank you so much!! Amanda
