Have you seen this. It costs a bit, but it's cheaper than the groomers.

My grown guy pays what I would call board. It's about cost for his food, his share of utilities, and laundry. Cleaning, cooking etc is basically free but he is expected to help out when he is home. He pays for his own vehicle, clothing, entertainment, phone etc.
This is still much cheaper than living on his own, but ensures that my dh doesn't have to work to pay for his expenses. Because this son seems comfortable staying home, we are slowly raising it so that other options may become more attractive in a few years.
My other ds did the same thing until he got married.
ETA: When my guys were in school full time/part time board was adjusted accordingly so everything was affordable. Full time school equals no payments.

It's been a long time since we've done chemistry, but for BJU 7-10, I still mark some of the chapter reviews and labs. The quizzes and tests are graded, but I check for spelling and written answers. You have the option of including the grades for some written work or ignoring it.
You do need to have the materials to do the experiments. If not, the lab instructor will do a demonstration from which they may use the data.

For my fourth boy, we couldn't find out. The ultrasound was so awful I could hardly id the baby. Unless I have to, I only have one. And I've seen a lot of ultrasounds.
We figured that the odds were that this one would be a boy. If we were surprised I knew pink stuff would show up quickly.
ETA: We were actually glad to have a boy. Being the youngest and a girl would have its challenges.

We do charge board for anyone not in school full time.
It essentially pays for utilities, food, laundry service and other expenses such as hydro to the shed they use.
It is well below rent levels anywhere near here. So far one guy is doing this and very content to stay at home. The second guy will be starting to pay board this September. Neither seem too eager to move on which if fine with us. They are both very mature, responsible young men.

Several years ago, we read a book about a safari guide's adventures. It was quite funny, but no one can remember the name of it.

When I moved into our current house 21 years ago, there was a used red and black one in our entrance. It's still going quite strong although it's starting to look a bit ragged. It has endured 5 kids and their friends, dogs, renovations and lots and lots of mud and snow.
It's still ugly, and I'd like to put it at the basement door instead of the main door, but I can't bear to replace it with anything of lesser quality. And yes, this is a commercial quality mat.

I'd vote for both. I've never used MP that young, but for grade 5 and up, we would do the 5LU of CLE and 2 or so MP guides. It worked quite well.

We strung clothes lines up in an unused corner of our basement. Enough for 2 large loads of laundry. Ontario has the highest rates for electricity in North America so hanging our clothes to dry in the winter is a real saver. Those little drying racks would never do for our quantity of clothes.

Has anyone used their Great Ideas Courses or their What's the Big Idea courses?
I'm trying to figure out how much work one of these would be for my guys. Any input would be appreciated.

We've done this with our 2 oldest sons. It has gone fairly well. We will likely be transitioning the younger two a bit earlier since I'm getting rather tired of homeschooling.
There were a few gaps such as how the teacher expected science labs to be written up. Generally, they performed much like they did at home. They're neither rocket scientists, nor slow.
This was a planned transition to prepare them for college and a classroom environment. They also needed more exposure to different types of people. Neither wanted to go.
I have seen a couple of transitions that have gone poorly, mostly due to large gaps in parental beliefs between what a child is capable of and what the school's expectations are. This includes both material mastered and workload and behavioural expectations. It is to your child's benefit to be realistic and as objective as possible as to their prerequisite abilities.

As a pp said, there's no one scope and sequence to integrate math subjects. Here in Ontario, math is integrated, which I credit to our decent math scores.
Singapore math continues to be integrated. We are using Saxon because, of the American maths, it is more integrated and extremely solid.

I agree that the videos are worth it. Mrs. Vick is great. Ds13 used them and now ds12 is using them. We do online with the December sale.
I'm not into science too much either. This definitely improved the quality of the instruction.

Being ready for the actual science and being ready for the workload of a high school course are two different things. I'd think long and hard about the latter. Or decide how you can tailor the course to lighten the workload for the younger one.
:iagree: High school level courses not only have a greater level of material, but the material comes faster and is expected to be learned in more detail. I've had one child do a course 2 years in advance and the workload was more difficult to deal with than the material. We slowed it down for this guy.
Currently I have ds13 in a grade 9 BJU science (he's a young grade 8 and would be grade 7 in many states). It's been challenging and I have to work with him some to keep him from becoming frustrated. He does love science which is the only reason I would allow this.
I can't help you as far as putting the two in the same course.

We've used omni 1 in 7th grade with an edited book list. My understanding is that books 1, 2, and 3 are all about the same level. My experience with omni 2 would support that. This would make it a good fit for 7th grade. We will be modifying book 3 quite a bit since we're not American.
I would agree with Lori that some of the selections are too much for a 12 yo. That is part of the reason we pared it down. There is not much of the mechanics of how to write, but there is lots of opportunities to write within the courses. I've found that my student's writing ability has greatly improved over the last year and a half. This does involve a fair amount of teaching time from me though.

Somewhere on the bju forum, there are suggestions for some chapters that could be read only, or read and watch videos, to lighten up or speed up the course. I don't have the book in front of me, but I think it was some of the space chapters that aren't a foundation for the later chapters - could be the planets or the moon. I believe it's in the first half of the course.

I've been using one for a bit more than a year now. It's much simplified, and modified, but I really like it. I didn't spend the time to do "pretty", but just use a cheap notebook from Costco. I'm rather suspicious that those who are too caught up in making this look like a piece of art are missing the point - to organize your life. I print out monthly calendars and tape a few other things in, have my to do lists, and planning notes inside. I gave up on the table of contents, but that may have been a mistake.
Now I'm going to check out some of your links to see what I can improve.

We're doing something similar with Acts right now and it's going well, but a guide would keep the guys from being too dependent on me. For example, I was sick all this week and nothing was done on Acts, because I'm the leader.
This would be for ds 12 and ds 13.

Simple wet mop?

I use a mop like the oCeder one but instead of using a spray bottle I have a bottle that pours a fine stream. I just have it in one hand to use when the mop gets too dry or the floor gets too dirty.
