  1. I have had problems sleeping and finally found these sleepphone headphones that are really comfy to wear while sleeping, then I plug them into my MP3 player and listen to audio books all night (watching QVC and the drone of their voices also sends me to sleep). The speakers in them are completely flat so you don't notice them and can lay on them. He could play white noise/waves/music whatever. But the constant gentle drone of audio books work for me. I cant sleep if I hear any noise like people moving, breathing, my fish tank filter or next doors broken cat scarer that sounds like death watch beetle through our double glazing (they've turned it off now). I think because I choose the audio book its different and it makes me focus and drop off.

  2. My plan for the next few months is to lay down some supplies.

I would recommend emergency lighting that is permanently installed in your home. It charges off the mains electricity and then switches on when the power is cut off. Really useful for middle of the night power cuts. One of ours broke recently and it was so weird being plunged into complete darkness when we had a night time power cut because the emergency lights have always been there. We have one in the landing and one in the kitchen.

  3. My sister's friend is in Tokyo, she is a translater and a newsreader. She is a British citizen and has the option to return back to the UK. My sister spoke to her with in the last couple of days and she is very shaken up (emotionally and physically) from all the after shocks but wants to stay in Japan with her friends and family. She is half Japanese and feels a huge loyalty to the country and doesn't want to leave unless she really has to, she thinks that it is definitely not at that point just now.

  4. If I was buying it all from scratch it would match or co-ordinate but at the moment our house is a hotch potch of hand me downs and inherited stuff. Its slowly getting more co-ordinated because I tend to buy cream/ shades of blue and silver metal items when I need to replace things. Our crockery is always a mixture because so much of it gets broken.

It doesn't bother me enough to do anything about and although I hate the inherited dark heavy wooden furniture, Its far better quality than I could afford.

  5. Tea contains tannins which hinder iron absorption, I struggle with this as I love tea and have an iron deficiency, from what I have red though it only causes problems with the iron from veg not meat. But there is tannin in herbal teas too, its not as simple as swapping as some herbal teas are really high in tannins. Nettle tea being an example.

I have heard of an australian tea that is free of tannins and very low in caffeine called Madura tea.

  6. If the rash is not symmetrical and sort of spotty then it might be thrush but if its symmetrical and red it could be a contact reaction to the diapers, the wipes, or just about anything.

If its thrush you need a specific cream to get rid of it, a pharmacist should be able to recommend something but canestan do a cream for babies.

If its a contact reaction you could try changing to cloth diapers or the most natural disposables you can lay your hands on. Something along the lines of tushies, unbleached etc. Drop the baby wipes and use water or water with a little bit of a simple baby wash and a washable wipe.

Naked bum time helps a lot too and shea butter.

  7. I was an exchange student when I was 10 or 11 and I do remember being deadly bored when we were at the house of the family we stayed with, we were placed in pairs with a friend. But basically the family didn't do anything when they were at home. So I would recommend making sure your exchange student is fairly busy all the time even if its just playing outside or something, we spent all our time in the bedroom at the house.

  8. There's been articles & documentaries that I have seen and read very recently saying that some doctors are thinking that crash dieting is the way to go to loose weight. I always thought it was bad on so many levels but now its recommended to many people to do 1-2 weeks of crash dieting.

My Mum lost a ton of weight after going on metformin

(and some others but I can't remember what) but I can't say exactly what caused it the drugs or specific diet, she eats really small portions these days and gets full really easily, but isn't doing any extra exercise other than walking to work and gardening. She lost maybe 30lb gradually over the last year. She still has stubborn belly fat though.

  9. Could you maybe try do a time each day when you and your children sit down and together and give compliments or positive statements about each other. Say towards the end of each day. Even if its just saying things like You did really well at xyz today or You tried really hard or I was really happy that you were ready to go out on time, I really enjoyed being with you today, or I was proud of you for xyz, or maybe commenting on any sharing or fun that went on that day.

Then it could help them learn your language of love.

Maybe try and make them feel how nice it is to get a compliment and be appreciated.. Even if you've had a hard day find something.

It might feel really awkward at first.
