  1. Don't use it for the whole cycle - all the way through to a finished and baked loaf. The machine can't bake properly. Make the bread all the way through the dough cycle. Let it rise once more in your own loaf pan or free form a loaf and then bake in your oven. If you still hate it, at least you can tell DH you gave it a fighting chance for shelf space! Then chuck.

  2. IMO less important than the chain of hotel is its age, or the last date of rennovation. Chain hotels can have both corporate and franchise properties, this accounts for the variable in quality and cleanliness. However, even when staying at a franchise, the chain dictates how often the property must be maintained. Often this info is posted on the website or the front desk personnel can tell you, as it is a frequent question.

  3. Teenage boy, we'll call him John, brought little brother, Jim, to therapy today. Along with his girlfriend, Molly. They are 30 minutes early. Jim is about 9yrs old. And bored to death. John is busy teaching Molly this card game. Collectible cards of some sort that is centered around war(?). All he said to his little brother the whole time was Jim, don't do that. Jim, sit down. Stop it Jim. No, you can't...While playing his game with Molly.

I listened to this for about 30 minutes, and when John told Jim that he was going to tell mom about his behavior, I lost it. I was polite, but blunt. I asked him if he would also tell mom that he was ignoring Jim the whole time? uh, probably not. THen I asked him if HE would have been able to sit perfectly still and silent for a half hour when he was that age? Uh, probably not. And yet you expect him too??

Molly then spoke up and said, we're only 18, we're just watching him we're not his parents. I informed her that watching a child usually involves more than just helping him get in trouble. I then received the classic teen eye-roll. :D

So she doesn't consider herself an adult, capable of attending to someone half her age. This family needs more help than speech therapy.

  4. Today is the anniversary of the first moon landing . . .

I had just turned 6 and recall watching the fuzzy black and white pictures on our little TV in the trailer we lived in . . . made my dad drive all over to every Gulf gas station as they were giving away a commemorative book free with fill up. I still have that book. Were you here? Do you remember? :D

Also six, watching the landing on the black and white at home.

  5. We freeze a milk jug filled with water and put that in our cooler. Such a big block of ice lasts well. I also often cook foods before hand and just reheat. We do put our cooler in our vehicle at night.

We try to hit campsites that have electrical hookups. We find it easier to feed 8 by using an electric cook pot and my electric griddle. (We just bring an electric shop light instead of a lantern, as well.) My handiest appliance is an electric kettle. Hot water is super handy.

Breakfast is either pancakes or instant oatmeal. Sandwich type fare for lunch. Supper is from the cook pot or from a stick over the fire.

:iagree: Ice cubes will all melt in one day. Ice blocks last much longer. If there will be a fire pit, take a cast iron pan and a cast iron flat griddle. We cooked italian sausages, burgers and corn this last trip - delish!

Also, we do cold/no-cook/pre-cooked breakfast and lunch. This frees up a huge chunk of time for daytime hikes. Breakfast cooking at camp = major clean up.
