  1. Only hardened crimminals should be subjected to middle school.

    BWHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

oh my I can so relate to that comment.

    There are days.

There is one security guard for each grade level and a police officer at school. And actually I think there must be at least one extra guard.

There is a vp for each grade and a counselor. And still the kids seem out of control during breaks

  2. We did a fairly nice sized party.

we invited about 75 people-mostly famiilies.

we did it at our church. We first did a small service, had a couple of slide shows of his life set to music. Then we had a couple of significant people in his life speak. IT was great, they both said PERFECT things about ds and encourge him in his future.

Dh and I both said a few words to him and then conferred his degree on him. It was so wonderful, and many in attendance said it was the best graduation they had ever been too.

We then went to the fellowship hall. where we had a small snacky meal and cake.

    It was absolutely perfect.

Oh ds wore a suit- he didn't want the cap and gown. We walked in to the theme from Gettysburg from the battle of little round top.

The slide shows were Power of the moment and Find your wings.

  3. I'm thankful I dont' live in a state that requires days, but now that I am working in a ps to help tutor some kids to pass the TEST, if I did, we'd probably be done by Christmas with days.

Seriously, since I have been there in March they have had for part of the day: a fun /field type day with lots of fun choice, and 2-3 Movie days and there will be another on Friday for 6th graders.

  4. :lol::lol:

oh and I just remembered this morning he missed when he was 13 going to age group champs because he was playing soccer at the church youth group IN SOCKS in the gym and he slipped and hurt his wrist bad enough we thought it was broken.

Maybe swimming. Or walking. :001_huh: :D

ETA: I've never been a sports person, so this whole thing is just interesting to me. Sorry. LOL

  5. I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.

    sorry;)

We just had the team award banquet. the 2 other sets of parents with us, made jokes that they should make the most injured or sick award, we know our children would be in the running. It really is a joke about ds and another kid getting hurt sick, seems to never fail.

When I walked back in after ds's hospitalization the coach almost cracked up looking at me shaking his head, like WHAT NEXT.

I mean pancreatitis is almost unheard of in children, no known cause for it either

  6. I cut both my son's and my husband's hair. I sort of learned it by doing it..

this is me. I did trial and error.

I would take them to get a hair cut. WATCH CAREFULLY.

then the next time it is getting a bit long try it out. use the bigger clips to keep from cutting too close.

I would then cut it for a few hair cuts. then take them in for a good cut that seemed to work.

one child likes the buzz cut in the summer

  7. I am sorry to hear about your son's injury. Being invited to go to a Zone Swim Camp is a huge honor. Will he be able to return this fall for short course?

yeah it is a huge honor and we were a bit shocked. YEs he should be able to return to some this summer, we shall see exactly how much he does this summer.

He seems to either be hurt or sick espeically at his top of the age group.

When he was 10 he got sick in Jan and was sick till April on and off. Got everything under the sun. He still made it to our short course season age group champs and on to Zones-probably didn't do his very best but still did pretty good.

Then when he was 12 he hurt his shoulder and totally missed the short course Champs.

and this year he was doing great and expecting to do good at the Champs meet. And in late Jan he got pancreatitis and was in the hospital for 6 days and out for about another week. He did pretty good at Champs meet but again you could tell he wasn't 100%. It pretty much exhausted him.

and now the stress fracture. It isn't bad, and he has been a couch potato per dr's orders for about 3 weeks.

he is going back in to the dr right before the camp to see if the dr will release him to do anything at the camp.

  8. Here! :tongue_smilie:

We've been involved with USA Swimming for about 5 years now. 2 of my sons swim on a team, and my youngest (6) is working on swimming a full lap. :)

I'm a certified Stroke and Turn judge. It's the best way to watch a meet! :)

    that is cool.

Swimmer boy started when he was 4 turning 5. He hits the cut off great. His birthday is in the middle of the summer BUT the cut off is earlier so he is sometimes older swimming in the 2 year age bracket but that is the way the cookie crumbles. He was a natural at it.

His first year round meet he swam the 100 IM and won it for his age bracket. So I have a hard time remembering back to when he couldn't swim a whole lap

Stroke and turn would make me nutty totally nutty. I can tell things don't look right but no way could I pay that much attention to a swim.

I help out though for our home meets. I use to do hospitatlity and really enjoyed that, but now I usually do ribbons or some other mindless job. I do hate timing, but will do it.

at our summer league meets I'm clerk of course and I line up the little ones. LOVE IT.

  9. Another swim mom here too.

Yes $31 for a girls suit is good.

also are you sure you need a 30. That would probably be an adult size woman's. Alhtough I have boys so it could be different. Trying to remember what some of the girl's moms have said.

my 15 yo son wears a 26 suit.

the suits for swim teams should fit fairly tight.

Kastaway swim wear is another place to check out.

also get yourself signed up for thier emails they sometimes run specials.

Swimoutlet just did a free shipping on $75

and Keifer had a drawstring bag if you spent $50

sadly they didn't have what we were looking for OR we didn't hit the limit. GReat.

WHat kind of team are they swimming for?

  10. I just had a really weird and creepy thought that I know came from some show or movie I was only half watching (Dh has things on that I don't always pay attention to). Please don't jump all over me, I'm not saying that Onlyme is in this category. I did some googling and found this article. The "take care" made me think of this section:

There are lots of ways to communicate a signal: timestamp on the message, an uncommon word in the subject line, etc. Use your imagination here--the possibilities are limitless.

    Here's the article:

    http://www.zdnet.com/news/terrorists-and-steganography/116733

And what about all the interest in geography? Ok... I'm done letting my imagination go anywhere with this.

    now that is WEIRD

  11. sometimes the notice is in the paper. I don't know your story, but you never know what happened to your dr. He could have had a major issue in his life.

It happened to me last year with my GYN, i was having some issues and I had a followup appt with her like a month later and I got a call that my appt had to be changed to the np in the office. She had a major health issue. and I only know that because I happen to know a neighbor of her's through hsing

  12. this cracks me up since there is another thread around here ranting about Coop rules. /yep every rule our coop has is because a family wanted something special for them. So a new rule.

OUr coop does have rules, not everyone has to teach-actually teaching is fairly limited BUT everyone has a JOB, either helping clean up or watching the nursery or some other type job. no choice about working.

and our coop has monthly mom's meetings-actually this came first the coop came after the mom's meetings so now the mom's meetings are required to be in the coop.

  13. my college boy works at our neighborhood pool. He got out of school Sat.

I'm not really sure exactly when he will start back to work.

    and he doesn't work breaks.

he did get a job at college doing tutoring

Ds gets out Friday and goes to work Monday. He did not work on Spring Break (just a week), but before that, he worked nearly every day on his Winter Break (excepting Christmas, New Year's Eve and Day) and only took one week off the previous summer, right before school started.

He has to earn a quarter of his total college costs (tuition, books, fees, R&B), and, making just $10 an hour, it's tough. So, he doesn't have but a few days off during the summer. He won't, for instance, come with us on vacation in July, when we take 10 days out of town and a couple of other weeks here and there down at our house. (We live in a Rectory most of the year but own another home about 2 hours from here.)

Do yours start work as soon as they come home? Do they take a week's vacation with you as a family or do any other vacationing?

  14. I'm new to forums, boards and on-line discussions; I have been trying to become sensitive to the nuances of proper board etiquette. So I looked up this term "troll" as it has now appeared in two recent threads. Here is the explanation I received:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion

I don't understand. Why would someone do this? Wouldn't it take a serious amount of time? What is the point? Is this a frequent phenomenon? Thank you for the education.

I'm semi new here, I have lurked for a long time. so I'm not familar with the Well-trained mind trolls. But they are out there and yes it is amazing that people have time to do that, but it is how they get their jollies I guess.

As to why-they probably enjoy watching the train wreck that they can cause. It probably isn't frequent but I have been on quite a few boards/forums and have seen it happen on just about all. Most are able to shut them down quick though
