@HomeForNowI am wondering if you could share how the WOOT course went since your DS has recent experience with it. I am considering enrolling my son for it - he has finished most of the AOPS books. As to his current problem solving abilities - if given unlimited time, he does well on older AIME papers, but if in a time-constrained environment, he is not be able to finish the paper. I have seen other contest prep classes offered by Awesome math and IDEA math and I wonder how WOOT compares to them and if you know more about these. Thanks!
Many of the kids we know from Math Circle will take Awesome Math Problem Solving 4 as a bridge between AOPS classes and Woot. The class helps transition kids to more proof base solutions. We have been very happy with Awesome Math classes, they are very high quality.

Why do you think we need to replace them? I shelled out $90 last year in TI-84 and hoping it will take my kid to college. What it is I don’t know?
Asking because I need to buy another one for a younger sibling now.My dd used her TI-84 through college and is using in grad school. She was a CS major.

Well, our vax'd middle school director just tested positive for Covid. She's roommates with the children's ministry coordinator. VBS is supposed to start on Monday. MS and HS are going on retreats 8/1. I let my vax'd son go to church masked on Sunday and youth group on Tuesday. I am glad I kept my 4yo at home with me because I was feeling uneasy about her. I'm no longer comfortable with sending him since they are indoors, and most everyone is not masked. My son says at least half the kids tell him that they are not vax'd.
Only 25% of 12-15 year olds are vaxed according to CDC.

I live in San Diego, CA we just moved to the suburbs. We love it here, lots of things to do. We are in driving distance to the beach, mountains, and desert. The weather is great all year. Lots of homeschoolers in the area. Also great private and public schools. We have some of the best public schools in the country in our area. Only downside is the cost of living.

My Pillow, dh went through many many different pillows and my pillow is the only one that works for him. He is a side sleeper. You can get My Pillow on Amazon, it’s faster shipping than it you order from the company.

My dd allergist recommended the BlueAir Hepa filters. They remove smoke smell during the wildfires. We have been very happy with it.

My daughter is a college freshman, but she and most of her friends wear either no show socks or knee high socks. LOTS of mostly-white tennis shoes, most commonly Adidas or Nike. Also Converse. I’ve attached two photos to sort of show the knee high socks and the tennis shoe style most of them have (diff colors, of course, but this genera style).
This, also like to add Vans are very popular.

My kids are really into pasta salads lately. With the summer heat, cold pasta salad has been great for lunch or dinner.
Do you have recipes to share? Bonus if it keeps well in the fridge. My dd loves bringing pasta salads for lunch.- 2

It makes sense that unvax students need to pay for their testing. DH had to get a covid test to attend an event earlier this year and his company paid $65 per test. The cost can add up, if the school is testing unvax students every two weeks.

We would have dinner at 4:30/5:00 and the kids would have snacks/2nd dinner afterwards. They did better with a good meal before 3 hours of swim practice.

Whooa. How come, do you know?
That's rather good for us, lol. I'm trying to train DD8 for the AMC 8 and an extra few months is much appreciated...
I heard it was so that kids who qualify for AIME would have more time to prepare.

Actually, I would say the model that will likely be followed will likely be an outsourcing model. While I didn't think that I would migrate towards this as much as I have. My son was asking to do this. Relationally, it is better for us because he really wants a lot more independence right now.
I find this to be true with my ds. He is 13 and wants to learn from someone other than mom.

Do you have Cogat or iReady scores? When my son started at the charter school, he took the iReady at the start of school year, base on his scores they offered us a choice of a grade skip or subject acceleration. Charter school are much easier to work with than a public school.

M was accepted into a research lab at our local UC. He has been working with the lab since April. He will continue working on optimizing memory storage algorithms. He is planning to put in about 20 hours a week, so no camps. He just wants to spend his free time hanging out with friends.

My ds has not taken Level 4, he is taking it in the Fall. From what I heard talking to other parents, the class helps kids learn the different types of proofs and how to construct a rigorous proof. One of the IMO team members is from our math circle and his mom highly recommended this class. She said it gave him the scaffolding he needed to make the transition from AIME to USAJMO and USAMO problems. She also said it’s a lot of work, her son spent 2 hours a day on the class. I’ll report back after my ds takes the class.
