Everyone I've known who has had an air soft gun or BB gun has had it stored in his room, and no one ever questioned if it were a bad idea (I'm not from a gun culture area, either). Schools should not be taking screenshots of children's homes during class, and this whole virtual school in the home thing is just asking for a huge overreach of teachers and schools.
Or, it's allowing mandated reporters (and caring adults) to still keep an eye on at-risk students who otherwise have no oversight while they are at home.

A generation of children who just stare at screens all day will probably have more eye issues.
It was said tongue in cheek, not seriously.
Ah ok - because no studies show any long term vision issues with looking at computer screens.

Perhaps I should direct my children to become optricians or opticians. Demand will be high. 😣
Why?

Yeah, that's bullshit. I'm okay with OFFERING full day virtual kindergarten, especially in at risk environments, but I'm absolutely opposed to REQUIRING it.
It's not required in most states. Only 8 "states" including DC, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico require it.

I wonder if a social worker was called in if it WOULD be ruled child abuse. I know day cares that leave kids strapped into car seats during the day have been found to be abusive.
@Ktgrok What would happen if you informed a local news station that these requirements might be abusive?
It's not developmentally appropriate IMO, but it's not abusive. A social worker would not say it is, and parents are doing the best they can in this weird time.

I'm anti-death penalty. I just don't think it's our job to decide who lives and dies. But seeing the news made me think about that poor mom and baby too.

I know kids who work a LOT - almost full time - their senior year. My son worked just Sundays during school, and only after he had his license.

I understand about the double headstone thing. I do the flags in the same part of the cemetery every time (more efficient--I know where at the vets' graves are) and there's a double. The woman has not passed away yet. HOWEVER, she remarried after her husband died, but then got divorced and went back to the first husband's last name. It's so weird. I do wonder if they'll bury her there. The stone reads "Lifetime Companions". Not exactly.
Well, they were his lifetime companions....
I'd never remarry so I guess I'd be ok with a joint headstone.

I literally don’t even like to, say, dash from the bathroom to the laundry room in just a towel in my own home. I just think that’s a lot of information my 15yo son doesn’t need to be faced with in the hallway. 😄
This is the main reason most of our towels are actually giant. lol

Wouldn't bother me, but I'd find it funny.

I do come to the education forums. How did I miss it? What's the name of the thread?
I looked for the thread because I LOVE school supplies and couldn't find it. ☹️

My kids obviously have a virus of some sort that is contagious. The only place they could have got it was TKD. I don't want to be all blamey but they caught something from someone there and we can't go until tests show it isn't COVID and they aren't symptomatic so they spread whatever it is to anyone else.
I think engaging in indoor exercise activity for any age is risky right now. I'd send the letter someone posted above, but I wouldn't have them return after they are feeling better.

Would the lawyer be honest with the parent if she/he felt that they didn't really have a case, or would they pursue it anyway?
I wish I could share details but I can't.
Depends on how ethical the lawyer is. Most parents are given a plan when their children are taken away, and if they work it they have a chance to get the kids back. If they don't...the lawyer won't be able to do all that much IME.

I believe in pretty much all states they are provided a lawyer.

Have you tried to do remote learning with a kid with dual sensory loss, and quad CP? It doesn't really work. Yes, there are plenty of people claiming that they can't mask due to asthma or allergies, but there are absolutely people who have genuine need.
I haven't. I was simply telling you our district's requirements.

Masks are required. If someone can't, they do remote learning, curbside pick up, etc. No exceptions.

That. Is. AWESOME!

Yes, we were deep in lockdown mode and I kept getting diarrhea. Then I got a notice from my grocery store that every salad I'd purchased in the last 2 months was recalled for a parasite that causes intermittent diarrhea for up to a month. DH was complaining my toilet paper use doubled but what did he want to do? Install a bidet? Luckily it came back in stock here fairly quickly. I've been mailing it to people in other areas.
Is he still alive?

You don't have to.
You're right...I don't. I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom who hasn't worked in almost 20 years. But for the people who do have to - I'm going to fight for their right to a living wage. I don't know why anyone wouldn't.

I think there is a difference in every adult having access to full time work that allows them to support themselves and every available job having a wage such that a person is able to support themselves fully.
Yeah I don't think so, but it's ok if we don't agree. And, of course, neither is reality.

OK, so what jobs pay min wage? And it goes back to what I was saying earlier - I don't think that all jobs, even at FT meant to be a supporting-a-person jobs.
Seriously? You don't think someone, anyone, working full time should be able to support themselves? I just can't even.

My daughter is definitely aware that some girls and women shave their legs, armpits, etc. She's aware of hair styles, makeup, eyebrow grooming (she actually does shave to lose her unibrow every so often), makeup, etc. She's just not interested in following along with any of it. It's her choice.
This! I can't see any reason whatsoever to force a kid to follow beauty standards unless they want to. It's not a parent's decision.
Tell me about co-ed high school wrestling.

I don't know much about wrestling and I'm super liberal, but the idea of my tiny daughter wrestling with high school boys, even small ones, makes me feel mildly ill.
