We are currently going through the state (MS) to try to adopt. We checked with adoption agencies close by and unfortunately, by the time we paid the agency, we would not be able to afford to raise the child. :glare: BT: Does anyone know if you can also apply to go through surrounding states to adopt? In other words, trying to adopt from 2 separate states at once?

Your favorite WW2 literature?
Sparrows-Song replied to Sparrows-Song's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Bumping. Anyone??? -
There is soooo much out there for WW2 literature, that I can't decide! Actually, we could camp out at WW2 for the rest of the school year and be happy, but I need to pare it down a bit. What are your favorite literature books about WW2 for a 13 yr old and a 10 yr old? I would prefer something that is Christian in origin or at least offers a little hope or a happy ending. I've thought of the Corrie Ten Boom books, but what are your favorites? Thanks!

How can you name a child.....
Sparrows-Song replied to Book Crazy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My mother in law works in a hospital and told me about a young pregnant girl who came in there to have her baby. The girl couldn't read or write. She went on to have a baby girl, and when the time came to name her, she looked up at one of the staff ladies who had been very nice to her, and asked her what her nametag said. The staff lady said, "Dietary." So, the new mom named her little girl "Dietary." The funny part? The baby's last name was "Perry." So, imagine being stuck with the name "Dietary Perry." :001_huh: -

Need help setting up Apologia General notebook...
Sparrows-Song replied to Sparrows-Song's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks so much for your answers. Can I ask one more question? If you have them divide their notebooks up by Modules, do you have a separate notebook for labs only? Or do those get divided up by Modules too? Thanks! -
Ds will be starting Apologia General Science (2nd ed) on Monday. I'm trying to figure out "how" to set up his notebook. Option #1) Tabbed dividers dividing it up into: OYO, Vocabulary, Study Guide questions, and Labs Option #2) Tabbed dividers dividing it up into: Module 1, Module 2, so forth... Option #3) Something else... Do you have your dc answer the OYO questions orally (to himself) or written? Do your dc write vocabulary words in a notebook, on note cards, or not at all? Apologia will be a BIG change for ds, and I'm already thinking he is not going to like how involved this is, and how much he has to do "on his own." Thanks for any help!!

Can someone take a look at my daily school schedule?
Sparrows-Song replied to Sparrows-Song's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thank you all very much! I was kind of afraid that really would take "that long" to get school done daily. We are planning to alternate Literature with Music (using Music Ace) because I don't want our school day to go any longer than this, and it was the only way I could fit in Music Ace. I do most of our Lit by reading aloud to them, which they really like. Thanks again! -
I've spent the better part of the day making out a daily schedule for school. I have an upcoming 7th grader and an upcoming 5th grader. I have pared down as much as I can, but 9:00 a.m. till 2:45 p.m. seems a bit long (to me) for school. Can you take a look at my schedule and see if there is anything that could be tweaked to save time and/or my sanity? The curric I'm using is in my signature line. Since we're using TOG, history really does need to be done daily, and our Apologia science needs to be done daily, too. Also, due to my own morning schedule, it's unrealistic for me to be ready to start Bible until 9:00. (Just being honest here. I want to find something that will work for us.) Any ideas and/or thoughts are appreciated! Boys daily schedule.pdf Boys daily schedule.pdf

Have you seen the Science Chef books? There are two of them. My ds (age 10) loves to cook and this will be his science curric next year. Also, if you have cable tv or Dish Network, check out "Good Eats" on the food channel. We have learned sooo much from Alton Brown. Every show is like a science lesson, but also teaches you how to cook. I like it just as much as my dc!

I'm looking for a study (devotion, Bible study, etc.) that I can use with my boys, ages 10 and 12 (soon to be 13.) Preferrably something that will take between 10-20 minutes per day, and help teach them what it means to be a Godly young man, and prepare them for adulthood. We have already used Pearables, "Personal Help for Boys," as well as Rod and Staff's "Young Man Be Strong," "Created for Work," and "Boyhood and Beyond." I own Pearables, "The Narrow Way," but I think I'm looking for something a bit more than just looking up Scripture. I say, "I think" because I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, but I'll know it when I see it, KWIM? Also, it is important for it to be "meaty" and not "fluffy." Thanks for any and all suggestions! Edited to add: I would like to do this study "with" them: reading it aloud, talking with them about it, etc.
