  1. Chalkdust series, there are Algebra reviews in the Geometry text. Susie
  2. Well, I would think hosts would be "advised" by the institution on such things as underage drinking etc... Like you, we know it is out there but not into it. Yes, I think that the full ride is so hard to receive from Vandy - we just thought it was interesting that Centre had this agreement with Vandy for the dual engineering degree. We are just trying to narrow down to a few schools to visit next year as well as narrow down what ds wants to study. So many decisions in high school years ... exciting and .... daunting too. And I taught at a college before kids! haha
  3. I had heard that things were being revamped as far as housing at Vandy. It is a "local" school for us since we are just down the road a bit in Franklin, TN. There is so much to consider! :tongue_smilie: Susie
  4. We are just beginning college search and Centre just keeps coming up again and again. The dual degree offered - 1st liberal arts degree in 3 years then on to Vandy for engineering degree in 2 years- really peaked ds interest. He is a mathie kid who loves things like Art history and literature and... history! haha But will probably end up in "Applied" math. He is not into a drinking/partying scene so maybe this isn't a great fit in that way but the small, quaint town and small school would be a great fit. I think we will definitely attend the College that Change Lives night near our home this summer. Maybe I will have something to report back then. Thanks, Susie
  5. about them on the website. And they will be in our little TN town this summer - just outside Nashville. I just wondered if any hsers had any experience with them. My 10th grade ds has received mail from them twice now and my interest is peaked! ha I have yet to meet anyone who has gone there. So fishing for any info. Thanks
  6. any info or experience with this college? Any input appreciated. Thanks, Susie
  7. ... just throwing out ideas to get the writer's juices flowing might be of help. No such thing as too off the wall. He might get an idea to run with. I say this because my ds wrote a paper in either 7/8 grade that was my first glimpse into the fact that my mathie son was also a very good writer with some insight. Topic? Reflections of the Roman Empire in Star Wars. Haha! While that is not the topic that you are looking to address, it really showed me that a little unexpected twist can do wonders. Here are some quickie ideas we brainstormed this morning that might get it started. *Senate/Tribune -Senate/House *Noble beginning in ideals to big government *Roman law/citizenship ideas reflected in our law/citizenship Good luck! Susie
  8. ...in the Smarr teacher's packet which are broken into weekly and daily assignments - total of 35 weeks. To make it work for a coop, you would have to decide what would be done at the co-op and stick it in. I think you could work it out with minimal work. Susie
  9. We are using The Story of Art by Gombrich along with Hewitt's art history syllabus. I have been pleased with the suggestions for quarterly projects and papers. There are also quarterly tests included though no answers for teaching mom - we are not enrolled with Hewitt - but I have used them more for essay test ideas. Would use it again. We have also used bit and pieces of Jansen's book in the middle grades - think that would also be a good book for high school study. Susie
