The Great Debaters -Movie Recommendation

Recommended Posts

The Great Debaters (2007)

" In 1935-36, inspired by the Harlem Renaissance and his clandestine work as a union organizer, Professor Melvin Tolson coaches the debate team to a nearly-undefeated season that sees the first debate between U.S. students from white and Negro colleges and ends with an invitation to face Harvard University's national champions." PG-13.

This movie would make an excellent addition to a unit study on the history of the U.S., slavery, the 20th century, the Civil Rights Movement. It does portray a lynching which is disturbing, a bar scene, some violence and sex scene.

I agree. I found it to be very well done. Also interesting, which is good. We watch a lot of educational movies, but if they're not interesting, then what's the point, LOL.
