How important are the prepositions in FLL2?

We are getting to about the end of FLL2, something like 65/99, and DS is working on memorizing the preposition list. How important is that? We aren’t that far in ELTL2 so I was planning on continuing that at a slow pace when we finish up FLL2 so I’m wondering if I should make an effort to keep up the review of the prepositions. I thought I’d wait on FLL3 and WWE3 until the fall.

I don't know how truly important they are. I imagine it makes diagramming/analyzing sentences that much easier, when the time comes.

That said, I downloaded the FLL Audio Companion from the Well-Trained Mind store, and the prepositions song is super catchy and easy to memorize.

FLL 3 will say that if your child didn't learn the list in FLL 2, practice it the times a day, review it this week, etc. So I definitely wouldn't stress about it. FLL 4 has the same kind of prompt, iirc. You might as well also be practicing how to identify prepositions in the fly using the definition. That will be more advantageous long-term.

I'd say it's pretty important.  DD is now using R&S grammar 6 and it still comes up a lot.  Also all helping verb list comes up frequently.  It certainly makes the day go faster because she had them memorized.

DS just finished memorizing and his favorite part is Down, During, Except For From.  ;)

I'd say it's been pretty important to have that list memorized.  We're on Grammar for the Well Trained Mind now, and having the list memorized really helps.  It is MUCH easier to identify prepositional phrases using the list than trying to discern them within a complex sentence by their function.  Also, theoretically, it should be easier to memorize it early rather than a few years later.

However, I wouldn't halt progress in FLL until the list was down pat - I'd just work on it every day, still moving forward, until it's in the brain.  FLL repeats and reviews that list pretty thoroughly.
