serendipitous journey
Has anyone used All About Reading, but then chose to use Spelling You See for spelling? I am not sure if I want to continue on with AAS. We did _not_ use SYS largely because of the emphasis on/requirement for writing in manuscript; we started cursive in 1st grade with MP's plans and I wanted to keep the child working in cursive. wish I could be more help! Guest
I have never used AAR, but we do use SYS and really have liked it. Do you have any questions in particular about it?
nixpix5
We also use SYS and love it immensely. I do not see any issue with using it while using AAR. What I mean is, SYS doesn't conflict with how AAR teaches phonics. We used A beka (whiches uses a system for marking vowels, circling special sounds etc) along with SYS and we had no problems. My DD just loves it. It is one of her favorite subjects this year.
lexi
I have used both (although I discontinued SYD because it wasn't a good fit). One thing I did to help mesh the two programs was to teach the AAR phonogram teams and color those in the SYS program. Some of the letter teams that SYS has you mark are not really phonogram teams. It's hard to explain... But I changed up how we marked things in SYS so it aligned better with AAR. In that way it worked better.
