summerreading
What could you recommend for a 10 year old very interested in astronomy? Is there even a MOOC or other online option that a child this age could keep up with?
Mike in SA
I would think a high school Earth science or astronomy course would be very accessible. Have you checked the various distance programs like TTUISD?
Lisa in the UP of MI
Have you tried any Great Courses? My oldest two love them. We are currently watching Experiencing Hubble. We borrow them from the library.
Irene Lynn
My 10 yr. old also loves astronomy. We have some Great Courses videos, a good telescope, have been on a number of astronomy related field trips, and are going to be using Astonomy A Self-Teaching guide by Dinah L. Moche. This last book looked like it would be accessible for a bright kid, who has some background already. It includes a nice amount of physics with the formulas, but again it is very accessible. It has short sections to read, then questions with blanks for the answers. We are looking forward to starting it.
summerreading
Thanks for the suggestions! We just started a GC Plus subscription, so that seems like the best place to start.
carrierocha
This course doesn't start until the fall: http://experienceastronomy.com/, but we watched the free video and it is super engaging. It is from a Christian worldview, if that matters to you one way or the other. If not that class, then the textbook it uses was really engaging to my kids because they loved understanding how the earth, moon, and stars are all moving (or not) and how to tell days, weeks and months from the sky. http://classicalastronomy.com/products/signs-seasons/ I bought my copy on Amazon to save on shipping.

Thanks for the recommendation. We are Muslim. I will check out the free videos and see if it's compatible.
Gizzyntaz
We are using the Holt Earth Science book this year and next. It is a high school level curriculum. My husband used it for Astronomy this spring, and we will cover the Earth Sciences next year. My 12 and 9 year olds are using it.
