MamaBearTeacher
DS and I made a wooden birdhouse and we want to paint it and put it outside for the birds. I think all the paint I have is washable kids paint except for boring white wall paint. I am thinking washable paint is not a good idea for outside. What options are there? Colored pencils? Crayons? This sounds like a dumb question but I am feeling somewhat overwhelmed in life and having trouble thinking this through. I don't use anything toxic with my kids. I am concerned DS10 might make a mess with no washable paint. This might be silly because he is 10. I am not sure what to buy or that after I buy it I will have to throw it out. DS12 has autism and recently got into some big tubs of finger paint I had hidden and made a big mess. Thankfully it was was washable. Beaniemom
You could use acrylic paint. It cleans up easily. You could also try markers if you have non-washable.
MEmama
You'll need outdoor paint. You can get small sample sizes from Home Depot and Lowes for around $3.00. It will be more than enough for your project so you won't have to waste much if you toss what's left. A 10yo should have no problem using a paintbrush and doing a decent job. Just have him go outside and put the project on some newspaper or cardboard, or a tarp. Have him wear grungy clothes if you are concerned. Fun project! Hope you get some nesters! :)
