JoJosMom
A quote from DD, age 12, after participating in a webinar with the author of the curriculum, his wife, and other students.  Yay, Mr. and Mrs. S! (Just wanted to share. This has been absolutely the BEST curriculum purchase I've made. :001_wub: )
JoJosMom
According to DD, there is another one in the offing that will cover limericks, but I've yet to receive an email to that effect. Limericks for the contest are apparently due on December 3rd. I assume that the webinar will follow that. We were a bit hesitant, but DD loved it. It gave her a chance to see what other kids are doing (the subject for this webinar was "questions") and interact. (And make jokes for a new audience, her favorite thing!) I'll try to keep this post posted, so to speak.
AimeeM
What types of writing does this cover? Is it only journalism-type writing? I love the looks of it, but I hesitate to use it as a core, when it doesn't seem to cover different types of essays, research writing, etc... of course I'll admit that I could have totally missed it on their website, lol. SilverMoon
We adore CS here. :D We were at swim team practice duing the webinar, but three of my kids entered the contest.
SilverMoon
Oh shoot, I didn't know about the webinar. Will they be doing more? My dd is loving Cover Story as well. They posted on Facebook that there would be several this year, and to sign up for the newsletter on their website to know when.
SilverMoon
Aimee, CS is not an essays and research paper kind of curriculum, but it's not all journalism. It teaches skills needed for those incognito. My kids' writing has improved across the board since beginning CS. So far I've seen nonfiction articles, outlines, clusters, poetry, short stories (analyzing classics and writing their own) and such. My 6th grader is currently working on research for one project; he still needs to interview someone before he writes the article itself. Fwiw, it's not really secular. Pen
Can you explain the comment about it not really being secular?
SilverMoon
It assumes a Christian worldview occasionally. One lesson in particular is about interviewing someone. The person he interviewed was talking about a missions trip he took to Africa. The video for that lesson is the whole interview. Nothing else blatant stands out at the moment.
