Time Capsule for Attuneup is starting soon

Recommended Posts

My 12 yrs old twins will be doing all of the Fall Schedule as well as my 10yrs old.

Attuneup is a great program. We did it last year and I feel there is much to learn and practice and doing it again this year. The text is Story of the World Medieval and Amy is a very gifted teacher. Perhaps second time around, they can let the process sink in some more.

Essentially it was three days of work plus reading and then one day of webinar.

It keeps the kids moving forward and holding them accountable to work independently more.

I found this program through word of mouth from our local homeschool group.

Someone here in California personally knows Amy and her family up in Washington and stayed with them for some time.

Amy was homeschool and so are all of her siblings. Some of her younger siblings have been in her classes.

The online classes are very well structured and explains the writing process clearly.

Everything is done incrementally and builds up from one session to the next. It can be pay as you go or pay in one lump sum. She takes Paypal and pay what you can pay. Just tell her your circumstances if you are hard pressed. I pay her full amount because I truly believe in the service she provides. She lets you do trials if you are not sure if you or your kids are ready for this kind of learning.

I do not recommend skipping a step during the Time Capsule

During the sessions we made it a family priority that that work gets done before anything else so basically first thing in the morning.

Amy is Christian however a lot of information/teaching can be used by nonChristians.

Amy is very patient and positive and really nothing has been too difficult or overwhelming for my girls.

My girls took her Time Capsule sessions last year and also took her Spring courses which taught citation and using quotes.

I am returning because I really haven't seen anything else out there that I like and will cover what I want and why replace something that has worked so well. Good writing is not something you get one time, it is practice practice practice in using the skills over and over again and refining them continuously. Yeah...tedious but necessary.

So basically on Mondays, my kids go online and enter in a code that Amy sends you via email. They check their assignment for the day. Some days may be a short worksheet that helps with the writing assignment (sometimes like a graphic organizer), a video to watch or a reading assignment. And then a writing assignment. She has an online checklist where the kids can mark to state that they did the work.

Tues -again the same. Submit your work

Wed-we either do anything they need to make up or nothing that day.

Thurs-webinar class---does need a microphone so you can converse although part of last year we didnt use it because we couldn't find a brand that works with our computer (our problem not hers)

Fri-do the writing assignment and submit it. You have up to Sat noon to submit I believe.

If my kids need more time to read a writing assignment, they can read it at nights before bed. And we have been able to do the writing assignments and worksheets on the go.

She has programs that allows you to submit and her to grade and comment on the writing the kids do. Sometimes it is a blog forum and others is a direct online program that does it. I am not sure what her plans are this year. I am not sure if her system is different.

I recommend a writing notebook for each child and have their reading book nearby it everyday. I have a shelf for each child for their papers and such just for this class.

I recommend a book per child otherwise it makes the reading assignment take a LONG time.

She sends the grade separately via email just to your account I believe. My kids don;t have their own email account yet. I sometimes follows the grades but I don;t focus on it much. It is better that way, otherwise they get anxious and competitive. I usually just ignore it and just have the kids read the comments. That is the most important part I believe.

All of her comments have been personalized and she focuses on exactly where your kids are.

You can always email her and ask her questions. If you have any more questions, I would be delighted to expound on what I do know of the program but again she may do things a little differently this year or not. Don;t know yet.

I don't think there is a sample online but I can assure that Amy takes her time to explain things and is very patient but has high expectations. She does know that one of my daughters struggles (learning disability of some sort) so she focuses on just on encouraging her.

Your child and you can always type her during class and ask a question or after class via email. I believe she has a questions time right after class so you can stay on longer asking questions. My girls have always been shy and reticient but they shine in her classes.

I would ask Amy about your 14yrs old,  emzhengjiu.

She starts off simple subject/ verb called snippets

Then moves on to the sentences with descriptive words.

The girls were writing pretty descriptively pretty quickly and our thesaurus was being well used.

Have you done your first ATTUNEUP assignment yet?

We did them late last night as they were assigned.

I had forgotten about her new method that she introduced this summer with Grammar Cracker.

Basically go to the Login part of her website and login. If you don;t remember her password from summer, ask her. Otherwise she assigns you your personal passwords and usernames.

Then click on the class.

Here is what she writes in her orientation email;

How are lessons organized?

Each lesson begins with a brief orientation message and a list of objectives for that lesson. Next, students watch a video lesson (between 10-15 minutes long) and complete a group project where students complete a short exercise and share their work with the class. Students then read a chapter of the textbook and take notes using the Writing Helper for the lesson (located under "Files" at the top of the screen). Lastly, students type up their writing assignment and take a five-question quiz. The average student will take between 60-90 minutes to complete a lesson. There are three lessons per week. Students don't necessarily need to complete an entire lesson in one day; you can spread lessons over a few days if you need to. I would recommend completing the first lesson of the week on Monday or Tuesday and completing the second lesson of the week on Tuesday or Wednesday. Save Thursday for the webinar and Friday for the third lesson of the week (a bit shorter since it doesn't include a reading assignment). I try to limit the number of assignments and give you as much flexibility as possible so that TimeCapsule fits into your schedule.

The webinars are all scheduled for Thursdays. But there are also online lessons to complete (sic) before and after the webinars.

Hope this helps others see how the class is organized! My kids are sitting here at our dining room table reading away. Yeah!
