Camy-7 boybarians 1 lady
I am the coordinator for our local homeschool group's Mom's Night Out meetings. These meetings are once per month. It seemed a good idea to me to turn the meetings into a Google Hangout so that those who are unable to attend may be there virtually via this app. Has anyone here used Google Hangout? Thanks! Blessings, Camy
Alessandra
I'd be interested to hear opinions too. We tried hang outs for a bit with our Girl Scout troop, not for meetings, but for general communication when girls were engaged in a group project. It was great in that it really brought the girls closer and cemented friendships (video chats). But after a bit, when I got a chance to read all the privacy info about Google Plus (required for Hang Outs), I opted out for dd, as did some other mothers for their dds and the whole idea died. My opinion may not be typical though. I don't do FB, etc. and you are dealing with adults, not kids. I can't remember all the details, but my dd got messages from people she had never heard of, that Google thought she would like, and we had all the privacy settings at max privacy. It is not that those people could see our chat, but it still creeped me out. Also my dd had used part of her real name for her Google mail account and by default this showed up in hang outs. I did not want to spend time fighting google for dd's privacy, lol.
angela in ohio
I use Hangouts constantly to communicate with team members I mentor, my daughters, etc. My daughter uses it to chat with her boyfriend and with her future college roommate. I have never had any issue with people I don't know contacting me, or with any other privacy concern. Personally, I would have a different time for the Hangout. The people who are willing to show up in person shouldn't have to be slowed down by online participants (online discussion is more cumbersome.) We have tried some virtual mentoring and things like that, and it is better to be all online or all in person.
Beth in Mint Hill
Hi Angela, How many people can get together via Hangouts? I'm thinking of using it for some discussions we hold in our online study center.
