foxbridgeacademy
What I'm looking for is something that goes over logic, reasoning, argument, fallacies and/or philosophy ect... It needs to be understandable to a bright 5th grader(early jr high level would be fine) and I prefer secular. I don't want it to be overly mathy either. Any suggestions either a book or even websites? Thanks.

foxbridgeacademy
Thank you, I'm not wanting puzzles though(or math logic). More of a Philosophy or Debate style... This is very hard to explain. Like what I imagine Fallacy Detective is but secular and at a 7th grade level. Any ideas? Lori D.
"Harry Stottlemeier's Discovery" sounds like it might fit your qualifiers; it is a mix of logic and philosophy at a middle school level. Read more about it in this past thread: "We're only on chapter 2 but..." The Pig That Wants to Be Eaten and The Philosopher's Toolkit, both by Baggini, may also be more along the lines of what you are looking for (both at a high school level). Other secular logic options: - Philosophy For Kids and Advanced Philosophy for Kids: The Examined Life (White) -- middle school level - The Snake and the Fox (Haight) -- high school level - Nonsense: Red Herrings, Straw Men and Sacred Cows: How We Abuse Logic in Our Everyday Language (Gula) -- high school level - Orbiting With Logic (Risby) -- gr. 6-8; puzzles, BUT also some brief helpful explanatory text on specific types of logic, fallacies, etc. And while I believe these are written at an adult level, the books described in this blog may be closer to what your are looking for. The blog's author also mentioned she was looking forward to the publication of this book, now available; it is a college-level book. Edited August 16, 2011 by Lori D. linders
DS11 is loving Blastoff With Logic and Mondbenders. Not mathy, just makes him think and connect the dots.
