Voc. for High School Student, Voc. for College Bound, or Voc. Cartoons for SAT?

Any preferences for learning Voc. for the SAT? Voc. for the High School Student, Voc for the College Bound or Voc. Cartoons?

My poor guinea pig son suffered through Vocabulary from Classical Roots a-d these past two years- his advice to others who torture their children with this one is "take it more slowly." He "used to love vocabulary and learning new words." WAAH!

 

That said, we have the two SAT vocabulary cartoons books in our bathroom reader basket and he picks them up occasionally and learns a new word or two. We were thinking of what to do for the next couple of years to keep his chops up for vocab, and I had vocab for the college-bound student, which I showed him. His words: "this looks great!"

 

So, not having used it, it gets my vote. This is probably of little help to you!

I own VFHSS and VFCBS. We began the high school book in 8th grade, but ds wasn't learning enough to justify the time spent doing the exercises, so we switched to College Bound which was a better fit. If your student reads a lot, I would suggest skipping the High School book.

and it was a BUST! That vocabulary was WAY too easy for my well-read kids.

 

My 2nd grader grabbed the 7th grader's rejected workbook and learned some new words, but the 7th grader learned NOTHING at all.

 

I liked the workbooks a lot. There was a nice variety of exercises and drills, but I would second the other poster who mentioned working above grade level for a well-read child.
