H.S. Burrow
My DD will be in 9th grade next year and we'll start the Ancients again. I was wondering which translation of the Epic of Gilgamesh any of you BTDT moms/dads might recommend. Thanks!:)
Lori D.
I believe the translation by David Ferry is the one many families choose, as it either skips or minimizes the section in which the temple prostitute teaches Endiku the ways of love. We went with an adaptation, "Gilgamesh and Other Babylonian Tales" by Jennifer Westwood. I believe this is out of print, but we didn't have too much trouble finding it used. The questionable scene was left out in this version, but the book also included the bonus of some Babylonian creation and flood myths. Warmly, Lori D. anissarobert
We used the Ferry translation in my ancient lit. class this year. I really liked it.
