Consumer Product Safety Act...looks bad!!

Recommended Posts

Apparently, this law goes into effect Feb. 10 and has far-reaching implications...forcing many small businesses to close their doors. Possibly not allowing us to sell used books, clothing, etc. I highly recommend you check into this as not many people know this is going on and it has incredibly bad consequences, especially during this economic catastrophe! Here are a couple of links to get you started:

...I think they could quite possibly ruin the American economy. I mean, think of what it will be like if the Salvation Army and Goodwill thrift stores close. They help poor people with job training and other financial help, and poor people but things there because they cannot afford new. That would be my family. Then there are used bookstores, online and otherwise.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is asking for our opinions on how to interpret this, so this could be a golden opportunity for many of us. Here is the address for that. This was from a Yahoo group called 1001books.

I read a news story last night that said that the two members of the committee responsible for this law are most likely going to amend it based on all the complaints they have received about it.

Frankly, I am not too worried about it because the law as written is so absurd that it would devastate the economy. I can't imagine that it will actually go into effect in its present form.

My husband said, "Well, it's very easy. Just make the manufacturers of components be responsible for certifying their items. Then the final producers, who create a product assembled from certified parts, don't have to do anything."
