Catherine
Alg 1 knowledge, which he took as a seventh grader!! He changed schools meanwhile, but I am wondering: Is there a test out there to assess a kid's understanding of basic algebra? Ditto: test to assess grasp of prealgebra? Good curriculum for home study-self-teaching if possible? I'm not sure to be honest if this kid can self-study math as he hasn't been all that self-motivated in the past. I think they will need a tutor and probably tutor will have a program they favor. Any help with assessments would be appreciated though. Thanks! Ruth in Canada
We like Aleks.com for solidifying skills and fixing gaps. We don't like it for learning new skills--I don't feel it gives enough background.
Mandamom
I like http://wwww.mindsprinting.com for a pretty good asseessment. It is free. Log in and take the placement test and you can get a feel for where his gaps are.
bettyandbob
I would second aleks.com. The site often offers a free trial. a couple of years ago, my ds used it in the spring when he was starting to get off track in geometry.
