shell in SC
I'm COMPLETELY brain dead. . .my mind can't wrap around this one. . . Julia ate 1/2 pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Mark ate 3/4 pint of malt ice cream. How many times more ice cream did Mark eat? Should be pretty easy right. . .I'm just can't get it. Thanks! Jennifer in MI
When I get a problem like that, I substitute numbers that make it easier. Julia ate 2 pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Mark ate 12 pints of malt ice cream. How many times more ice cream did Mark eat? Now, you can easily see that Mark ate 6 times more. How did you get it? Divide 12/2=6. So, for your problem, do the same thing: Julia ate 1/2 pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Mark ate 3/4 pint of malt ice cream. How many times more ice cream did Mark eat? 3/4 divided by 1/2. or 3/4 x 2/1 = 3/2 = 1.5 Does that make sense?
shell in SC
Yep, makes perfect sense. . .I think my brain shuts down when division is required. . .not a big fan of it. . .fractions either. Hmmm, no wonder DS is having problems. Thanks! I'd rep ya if we still had it!
Jennifer in MI
I think a lot of people get hung up with fractions and dividing. And, you got a double whammy with that problem!
