angela&4boys
I'm drawn to this because it seems less intimidating than IEW and a little easier on the pocketbook. I also like the elements of outlining and (essentially) narrating. The Hive's thoughts are appreciated,

It's narrative retellings. Nothing too intense, but a nice introduction to writing.
Peela
Great for a season. I have the Medieval Legends one and it is great to to go along with logic stage medieval history. It teaches basic skills- outlining, imitative writing. The language is rich. (The Aesop samples though were too archaic for my kids, but the Medieval one is good for the age). I wouldn't use it forever. I used it with my dd when she was about 11 I think, and I am about to pull it out and use it with my reluctant writer ds13 as a part of his writing program. angela&4boys
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and suggestions. I have printed samples from both Imitation in Writing and IEW's Theme Based Writing and plan on giving them a practice run after the Holidays. Warmly,
