Penmanship approach

If I were teaching just penmanship, I would use Zaner Bloser materials (we did Spalding, so penmanship was part of the whole thing). It teaches the different strokes that are used in manuscript and cursive, and then the letters which use those strokes.

I would do the instruction first, daily, and then use your morning read-aloud for practice. I wouldn't add in a whole bunch of stuff, but just keep it simple.
