I’m brand new to document scanning in general.

I have a document I need to sign, scan, and send as a pdf in an email. (Plus I’d like to do be able to do this to decrease physical paper storage clutter.)

I was able to usb hook up my computer to printer, laid the document on the glass plate as if to print, but chose “scan” instead.

it then asked what format so I chose pdf

and what computer so I chose usb connected computer

then I tried pushing on print button (or other buttons I thought of) and invariably got an error message.

Mine is a 4740, but every time I try to do connected, it errors. I put things on flash drives. I have to hit save, not print.

I am trying to understand this.

Is there somewhere on printer to insert a flash drive?

I am going to go look!

Ok I found what looks like a flash drive port, also ports for memory cards.

I’ll go fiddle with that.

Further suggestions and directions still appreciated!

Mine is at lower left next to flash drive port.

After you stick in the flash drive, then what are you doing?

Having old papers etc recorded to flash drives before shredding would probably actually be helpful.  Huge space consolidation.  And would not need to be on computer in event of intruders etc unless I ever needed them.  I could mark the flash drive outsides somehow with topic contents or dates or something .  I think.
