NewIma
Hello! My dd13 is supposed to write a research paper for RSO Bio but I need a step by step program or instructions on how to teach her to write a research paper including taking notes and citing sources. Is there a curriculum or workbook that is stand alone and just teaches how to write a research paper for middle schoolers? Thanks!
Zoo Keeper
Some freebies... (some are intended for high school, so you may have to adapt as needed) https://www.sewanhakaschools.org/cms/lib3/NY01001491/Centricity/Domain/1349/Research_Made_Easy revised.pdf http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/lesson_images/lesson1155/scaffold.pdf I like ^ this one for helping kids evaluate sources https://oxford.auhsd.us/view/22915.pdf

Hadley
Just in case anyone else is reading along, I also really liked IEW Writing the Research Paper. I took a class through this last year. It is very hand-holding and thorough. It covers evaluation of sources, MLA format, how to blend quotes, expand on analysis, structure the argument, etc... very step-by-step and clear. When I was in school, I seem to remember someone sending me in to the library with a stack of index cards and the instructions: Go write 😬. I now tend to err toward too much instruction rather than too little. This program is aimed at high school, but would be do-able for most middle school kids.
