Emma
I'm trying to decide if jumping in to CC Challenge A would be a good fit for my 12, almost 13 yr old son. My brain is literally going in circles. On one hand I love the cartography, but I'm not in love with The Lost Tools of Writing, nor am I excited about the 1 hr a day of Latin. I like the idea of community, even if it is already established and it is small. Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm just completely lost. I will take any advice or options you've got! TNMOMx2
We are heading into it for the first time as well with a 12 year old. My understanding is that each group functions uniquely, but after interviewing several of the groups in our area, we signed up for the one whose leadership seems to allow more flexibility in the 'mom-management' of the course work. For example, my child will not be using the Henle Latin (I am absolutely certain that particular program would not be a good fit for her), but she will remain in the Latin hour...as more or less either introductory information or review (depending on where the class is in relation to where she is in her other Latin curriculum - Visual Latin). I'm also excited about LTW, having come out of IEW. (Time for something new for her.) Also excited about the Science research/presentation component and the logic piece. Hope that gives you some fodder for thought. My child is also excited to do it - so that was confirmation:)
carrierocha
We were a CC family, but have moved in a new direction. I have this resource earmarked as an alternative to CC's mapping in the Challenge program. If cartography is your main draw, then maybe this would work at home and you could build a community another way. http://ellenjmchenry.com/product/mapping-the-world-with-art-hard-copy-cd/
quelques_fleur
I don't have much advice, but my son will be a challenge a student this fall. I'd be happy to chat with you if you wanted to talk through whatever it is that you're confused about. Was he in foundations and Essentials before this year? Jazzy
My dd did Challenge A last year and had a great experience. I have a post about her experience if you know how to search for it. She'll do Challenge B this year, then she wants to move on to something else. She wants to do DE classes and other stuff, and is afraid Challenge won't leave her with time for it.
