  1. Oh my goodness Ladies - this has been FABULOUS! Thank you all for your time and expertise in this area! I can't wait to do Lit this Fall!!!! Blessings!
  2. I want to introduce Dickens to 8th graders. Has anyone done so? Would "Great Expectations" be too much too soon? Thanks!
  3. Thank you ALL for the comments and suggestions! I have options to explore now. Blessings!
  4. How does DDbyD work if they miss a word in the passage? After they correct it - do you bring it back the next day and ask them to spell it? Thanks
  5. Do you know if this program has a dictation component to it? Thanks.
  6. Thank you all! I had heard about dictation as a methodology to address this - but had no idea how to implement that. I'll look into that further. Is Dictation Day by Day the only source for that methodology? Thanks again!
  7. Ok - I'm on my 4th spelling program since we started homeschooling in 2nd grade. (All About Spelling, Spelling Power, Building Spelling Skills, Spelling City). With each, they memorize the list for the Friday "test" just fine, but what I'm finding - now that they are writing papers - is that it isn't translating to writing. They're heading into middle school and so there's an urgency to get this fixed. Any advice on approaching this subject at this point?? Thanks!
  8. We are heading into it for the first time as well with a 12 year old. My understanding is that each group functions uniquely, but after interviewing several of the groups in our area, we signed up for the one whose leadership seems to allow more flexibility in the 'mom-management' of the course work. For example, my child will not be using the Henle Latin (I am absolutely certain that particular program would not be a good fit for her), but she will remain in the Latin hour...as more or less either introductory information or review (depending on where the class is in relation to where she is in her other Latin curriculum - Visual Latin). I'm also excited about LTW, having come out of IEW. (Time for something new for her.) Also excited about the Science research/presentation component and the logic piece. Hope that gives you some fodder for thought. My child is also excited to do it - so that was confirmation:)
