20 year old -- FT computer science co-op job -- in her college town, so not home, unfortunately for us . . . 10 day break at end of summer for family vacation to the Bahamas. Short family lake vacation mid summer local to her college.

17/18 year old -- 4 weeks spread through the summer of various activities with a local outdoor education organization -- 2 weeks as a Teaching Intern, 1 week attending and mentoring an adventure trip, 1 week helping with an Herbal Medic Clinic at a remote and very poor area in our state. 6 day trip to Alabama for college orientation + family lake vacation for a weekend. 10 day break at end of summer for family vacation. Rest of summer (about 6 weeks sprinkled in there) will be goofing off* and getting ready to head off to college.

14 year old -- 5 weeks of various activities spread through the summer with the same local outdoor education organization -- 2 weeks participating in weeklong day programs, 1 week as the Teaching Apprentice for one of those weeklong day programs, 1 week attending an adventure trip, 1 week helping with the Herbal Medic Clinic. Short family lake vacation in early summer. Rest of summer -- goofing off*, with a sprinkle of getting-ahead-of-the-game by doing a few chapters of our Biology text for next year.

*Goofing off is defined as: sleeping in, staying up late, swimming at the local swimming hole, going to the pool, having sleepovers with friends, running around the woods, watching Netflix, (Xbox for my son), baking, making messes, gardening, working on herbal medicine stuff, crafts/art/messes, etc.

I'm a big believer in summer having some DOWN TIME. I'm very hopeful that this summer we'll actually get some. Fingers crossed.

Mantra: Do not over schedule. Do not over schedule. Do not . . .
