I wouldn't necessarily drop it though, depending on the kid. Some need scaffolding later than others. Teeth are expensive, and one of my kids turns into a raging jerk without food. Forcing her to eat turns her back semi-human. By forcing, I mean she's told to eat or go back to her room where she isn't sharing her unpleasantness with the rest of the family. She's a very young teen and has ADHD. Sometimes that is the route I take with explaining things to my kid. I say the more money I gotta spend on your teeth because you don't take care of them, the less I can spend on your xmas wish list.
