3 ladybugs
I want something for my preschooler that wouldn't go too much in depth, but talk a bit about holidays around the world, and not just at Christmas. Has anyone seen anything like that? I am hoping for recipes, a craft and a brief (for preschoolers not older kids) lesson on what the holiday is. I want to use it in conjuction with what I am using currently. :) So does this exist?
cabritadorada
I haven't hunted for a curriculum exactly, but I was planning to celebrate a few countries on their special days this year. I had settled on these 6 for this year: Morroco Day - Sept 11 on Eid Al-adha Japan Day - November 3 (Japanese culture day) Nepal Day - Jan 29 (Tamang New Year) Ireland Day - March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) Mexico Day - May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) Italy Day - June 24 Feast of St John But I haven't gotten very far in planning the actual days--I was thinking I'd let DD help me find books and food in the week leading up to the holiday. We'd read some books ("Children Just Like Me" is a favorite) to learn more about life in each place, plan a few dishes, find some traditional music and dance on Youtube, and make the country's flag--and if possible play a game or learn something specific about the holiday. Are you thinking of something similar? :)
3 ladybugs
I am thinking of that but I was hoping for 1 or 2 a month.
Chelli
This book would be an excellent place to start: Childcraft How and Why Library #9 Holidays and Birthdays I own the above book and it is laid out by month. In that month there will be 3-4 holidays mentioned from various places around the world including how the holiday is celebrated and the history behind the holiday. I don't remember any crafts or recipes, but you could probably come up with things via an internet search. Each holiday is about a 2 page spread with pictures so not too long at all.
