I plan to introduce them to ideas such as setting, conflict, theme, and maybe some figurative language. I hope to make the class a lot of fun by dressing up as a detective the first day and tell them we will "investigate" books for their hidden clues. Thanks! It discusses the relationship between the author and illustrator.
