fourisenough
For anyone who is teaching AP Lit at home or taking the course through some outside source (online school, public/private school): can you let me know how many novels your students have covered through first semester? My daughter's class (PS high school) has a lovely, veteran teacher who went out on maternity leave early this fall and they have had a pretty underwhelming sub in her place. I'm concerned with how much ground they've covered (not enough, IMHO) and want to discuss with the Principal, but I'd like to get a gut-check from others with experience in this class. Thanks in advance.
Muttichen
I teach AP Lit. In the first semester, we do mostly short stories, poetry, and drama. Students also read three novels of their own choice. In the spring we do four novels together. So the total for the year is seven novels, three plays, and lots of poems and stories.

By that standard, we're not too far off, strictly in terms of the number of works covered to date. The original teacher is scheduled to return from leave by the end of the month, thankfully!
