Alenee
I have some apples to make pie filling out of and want to freeze them instead of canning them. Can I freeze them in ziplocs or should I buy some tupperware? I reeaaalllly don't want to have to buy the tupperware even if it's just the kind you get at the grocery store. It takes up way too much space in my already full freezers. TIA!
shougmom
Hi Carli, I can't vouch for freezing apples, but... If it will work in tupperware, it will work better in ziplocks! You can squeeze more air out. Take it from the ziplock-freezing-queen. :D Glad you're feeling better - I prayed for you when you had your surgery. <3 Linda
Alenee
Hey there Linda! I've missed catching up with you this summer. Thank you for the prayers. I know that I can only credit God for the quick healing taking place. Thanks for the advice! I called all our canning/food prep friends I could think of but no one was home. Melissa in St Louis
I have heard that you can freeze it in a disposable pie pan, then ziplock the frozen disk....when pie time comes you can just pop the filling part into the crust and bake. Never tried it, but I'm intrigued!:D
In The Great White North
I have frozen it in an aluminum foil pie plate (unbaked) and stuffed the whole pie (plate and all) into a gallon Ziploc freezer bag. Then I just took it out of the ziploc and popped it in the oven. It doesn't take that much more room than a ziploc of filling, and the work is all done.
